A day dedicated to quantum engineering

ISAE-SUPAERO and ENAC are pleased to invite you to the next edition of the “Innovation Aero Rendezvous”, which will take place on Thursday 5 February 2026 on the ISAE-SUPAERO campus, from 9am to 6pm.

This year’s event will be dedicated to quantum engineering. Our society is now in ^the2nd quantum revolution. Quantum engineering concerns everyone in society, from laboratories to major industrial companies and the general public. Quantum technology and its applications are rapidly emerging as one of the most revolutionary scientific advances of the 21st century.

The Innovation Aero Rendezvous will look at quantum engineering from a number of angles: institutional and societal issues, quantum – from fundamental research to application, quantum – from start-up to industrialisation, and finally the outlook: what kind of training courses for quantum engineers?

CIME 2025: Where Science Meets Adventure to Push the Limits of Exploration

In October 2025, ISAE-SUPAERO hosted the first edition of the Interdisciplinary Congress on Extreme Worlds (CIME) — an event designed to bring together explorers, researchers, and professionals around a shared ambition: understanding humans and technology when facing the planet’s most hostile environments — and beyond.

Led by Vsevolod Peysakhovich (faculty member in Human Factors), Maëlis Lefebvre (postdoctoral researcher in Human Factors), and Safouane Hamdi (endocrinologist specialized in reproductive medicine, Toulouse University Hospital), this congress promotes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of extreme environments, bridging scientific disciplines and real-world exploration.

Experts share their challenges and knowledge

The CIME programme featured personalities whose unique experiences shed light on the scientific and technological challenges of extreme environments.

Gaëlle Giesen, a champion in relative flight parachuting and diving, would like to see greater collaboration between science and extreme sport: “I’d like science to be involved in my disciplines to help me understand physiology”.

Géraldine Parodi, a diver – one of the most dangerous jobs in the world – underlines the similarities between underwater and space exploration: “We can bring our experience to bear on joint innovations.

Alban Michon, polar explorer and founder of the School of Explorers, stresses the importance of passing on knowledge to train future generations.

Jessica Studer (Institute of Space Medicine and Physiology) presents the results of her research at the Concordia station in Antarctica, a unique laboratory for studying human behaviour in prolonged isolation.

Stephen Alamo, a specialist in space medicine (ESA), discusses the medical challenges of long-duration manned flights and the development of future missions to Mars. For Christian Clot (Human Adaptation Institute), who explores human adaptation to destabilising environments, from caves to deserts, to population migrations, “providing solutions to enable society to evolve can only be done if we have the capacity to understand humans and their social behaviour”.

Towards more collaborative and applied research

Extreme environments – space, the depths of the sea, polar zones, deserts, etc. – share common challenges: isolation, confinement, physiological risks, technological autonomy.

CIME has shown that bringing together researchers and operators in the field is essential for :

steer research towards practical applications (medicine, engineering, training) ;
feed scientific reflection with unique feedback.

This first edition of CIME laid the foundations of a collaborative model for tackling the complexity of extreme environments. By transcending disciplinary boundaries, the conference aims to open up new avenues of research (physiology, psychology, technologies):

innovations in health, safety and exploration.

Interview with Frederico Baptista, co-founder of Zéro, a startup recently incubated by ISAE-SUPAERO

Zero, a startup created by three aerospace engineers and recently incubated by ISAE-SUPAERO, offers a visual positioning system for drones designed to operate in environments without GPS.

Could you tell us about the genesis of Zéro?

We are three aerospace engineers who met and became best friends in Lisbon, during our degree studies (degree in aerospace engineering at the Instituto Superior Técnico de Lisboa). We soon realised that we formed an extremely complementary and efficient team, to the extent that we always worked together on all our group projects.

It even led us to create a popular science and technology podcast – Zero Absoluto – which met with some success in Portugal. That’s where the name of our start-up comes from.

After graduating, each of them went on to do a Masters at a different university: João Silva went to TU Delft, Álvaro Patrício to Sapienza Università di Roma, and I to ISAE-SUPAERO. Once we had finished our studies, we got together to work on a project that was to become Zero Industries: a visual positioning system (VPS) for drones, designed to operate in environments without GPS, particularly in the context of modern conflicts.

We had the opportunity to present our first concept prototype in Warsaw to military players and the response was extremely positive. It was a turning point: we understood the urgency and the real need for this technology. It was at that point that we decided to seek funding to turn our vision into reality.

Today, we are proud to be backed by two major European venture capital funds – Project Europe and Heartfelt_ – while being incubated at ISAE-SUPAERO.

Could you tell us about your innovation?

Our innovation is a Visual Positioning System (VPS) that allows a drone to navigate completely autonomously without relying on GPS.

In today’s conflict zones, GPS signals are often scrambled or falsified, leaving drones vulnerable and unable to navigate properly. Our solution uses computer vision and artificial intelligence to enable the drone to determine its exact position in real time, even in the most complex and contested environments.

What makes our technology unique is that it is lightweight, fast and designed to run directly on embedded systems, without any external infrastructure. As a result, it offers reliable navigation for critical defence and security missions, directly in the field.

What are your short- and long-term development plans?

In the short term (next 18 months):

Our aim is to move from TRL 5 (Technology validated in a relevant environment) to TRL 9 (Real system proven in an operational environment), by developing a complete product ready for use in real-life conditions.

This involves

Integrating our VPS on several UAV platforms, to demonstrate its compatibility and versatility.
Carrying out field tests with our partners in the defence sector to validate operational performance.
Optimising our algorithms to make them faster, more accurate and more robust, while guaranteeing that they operate in real time on embedded systems.

Long term (3 to 5 years):

Our vision is to become the benchmark supplier of intelligent systems for defence, offering plug-and-play solutions that bring intelligence to UAVs and other military assets.

In concrete terms, our technology does not consist in manufacturing the drone or the platform itself, but in providing what makes them intelligent:

Real-time target identification and tracking,
Precision last-mile targeting and guidance,
Autonomous navigation without GPS, even in highly contested environments.

Our approach can be compared to that of Waymo in relation to Tesla in the field of autonomous vehicles: Tesla designs the vehicle in its entirety, whereas Waymo only provides the system that makes a vehicle autonomous.

In the same way, Zero focuses on the intelligence layer, so that any drone or military asset can become an autonomous and effective tool without relying on GPS.

Eventually, we will be able to extend our scope to other sectors, such as ground robotics, logistics, urban mobility and search and rescue operations, where autonomous navigation and advanced perception are also crucial.

Why did you set up the company in Toulouse and not in Portugal?

Toulouse is one of the world’s centres of innovation in aeronautics and defence. By locating here, we benefit from a rich ecosystem of major manufacturers, cutting-edge research laboratories and specialist talent.

What’s more, France offers a highly favourable environment for deeptech and defence start-ups, with public and private schemes that actively support innovation and the development of strategic technologies.

Portugal remains very important to us personally and professionally, but Toulouse offers the ideal conditions to accelerate the development and industrialisation of our solution.

What does the ISAE-SUPAERO incubator offer you? How are you supported?

New start-up arrivals on campus :

IRIS Lab: IRIS LAB is developing a wireless laser power transmission technology.
Orbsync : Development of a docking system for assembling large systems and setting up energy supply stations (fuel and electricity) in space. OrbSync is a young start-up created by Msc MAE students of Indian origin, and a prototype is currently being developed.
Flyte : Flyte is an Android and iOS application offering a car-sharing service based on trust. Flyte breaks with the codes of traditional car-sharing by offering journeys and proximity between members of the same community, within a framework of trust, comfort and spontaneity. Created by two 3A students at ISAE-SUPAERO (year 2025-26), Flyte has already achieved convincing results(https://www.appflyte.fr/) and was successfully implemented for the Raid ISAE and the AirExpo 2025 exhibition.
Tilt-Wing: Design of a VTOL using a tandem tilt-wing configuration and a blown flap mechanism.
RavenGuard: The start-up RAVENGUARD was set up by two MS IEM 2025 graduates in response to the need to preserve human lives on the battlefield. It is developing a portable short-range drone detection system. Technical support is provided by a teacher-researcher from ISAE-SUPAERO and a prototype is currently being produced at InnovSpace, with initial results encouraging. The defence and security markets are being targeted.
Convergence AI: Companies are facing a major challenge: transforming data into useful insights for making business decisions. Convergence AI, a start-up created by an ISAE-SUPAERO 2016 alumnus, offers an LLM-based product that enables companies to interact with their databases in natural language without having to go through data analysts or write SQL queries.
Mantha: Mantha is a young start-up created in 2023 by a graduate of ISAE SUPAERO's Specialised Masters in Systems Engineering, with more than 20 years' experience in the aeronautical industry. The company is developing a new fuel cell architecture for on-board applications that saves space, weight and power.
Oxyvidia: The result of a partnership between a research laboratory at ISAE-SUPAERO and the CNRS, Oxyvidia offers a digital twin of cells for measuring oxidative stress in the body. This technology, developed by a teacher-researcher from ISAE-SUPAERO, a teacher-researcher from the CNRS and a doctor in neuroscience from ISAE-SUPAERO, is aimed at health professionals, academic institutions, the pharmaceutical industry and professional sports.

Our diplomas and qualifications accessible via a VAE process are: the “diplôme d’ingénieur ISAE-SUPAERO” programme, the “Diplôme d’ingénieur de spécialité” industrial engineering speciality programme, the Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, and the professional certification “Project Manager in Artificial Intelligence and Data Sciences (AM)” registered with the RNCP n°40551.

The VAE Process

The VAE process is divided into 3 phases:

Phase 1: Application Eligibility

Once you have been informed about VAE and have checked that it can contribute to your career plan, Phase 1 can begin, with the aim of obtaining a favourable opinion on your VAE application.

To do this, you need to select the appropriate vocational qualification and draw up your VAE application (Cerfa form n°12818*2 and admissibility file, also known as ‘livret 1’).

VAE applications can be submitted to ISAE-SUPAERO between September and May. Once your complete application has been received, a panel will analyse your request and an acceptance decision will be sent to you within a maximum of 2 months.

If you are applying for a professional qualification (diploma, professional title) from ISAE-SUPAERO, please contact us to obtain the Cerfa form, the Livret 1 model, and the associated guide at info.exed@isae-supaero.fr.

Phase 2: Support and Skills Assessment

If the VAE application is deemed admissible by ISAE-SUPAERO, Phase 2 aims to obtain all or part of the professional certification in question. To do this, you will need to complete the VAE application form, also known as the ‘livret 2’, and to demonstrate your experience to the ISAE-SUPAERO VAE certification panel so that it can assess and certify your skills.

We offer individualised support led by a coach who holds an FFP ‘Accompagnateur VAE’ professional certificate (RS 2090) in coordination with the person in charge of the programme concerned by the VAE. This phase is managed by ISAE-SUPAERO in its capacity as a VAE support organisation and certifying body.

In the event of partial validation, the aim of Phase 3 is to acquire – via additional courses leading to certification – the missing skills required to obtain the professional certification in question. This phase is managed by ISAE-SUPAERO.

Our Innovation & Entrepreneurship Networks

At ISAE-SUPAERO, 2023 marked an acceleration in the development of entrepreneurial activity.

In addition to its role as a FabLab, the InnovSpace was transformed into an incubator for the Institute’s first entrepreneurial projects in 2023. It can house up to eleven startups stemming from study or research projects and student projects from the Ingénieur ISAE-SUPAERO and Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering programmes.

At the same time, a comprehensive process for supporting entrepreneurial projects has been defined.

As a result, ISAE-SUPAERO is now able to support project leaders from A to Z in the maturation and development of their innovative project (market study, technical feasibility, financial engineering, communication, marketing strategy, legal assistance, etc.).

A label has also been created to unite start-ups created by ISAE-SUPAERO students or alumni around a common identity of excellence.

The we spark the future - by ISAE-SUPAERO label was created in 2023.

Its purpose? To create an identity and unite all the companies founded by alumni, students, and staff of ISAE-SUPAERO. It also reflects the Institute's values of excellence and passion.

This label is officially awarded to each ISAE-SUPAERO company that meets the deep tech, aeronautics, space, or defence criteria.

A department is mainly dedicated to this activity and is involved in several areas:

Detecting problems to be solved to provide students and teacher-researchers with ideas, and identifying potential solutions
Selecting projects with the potential to create value
Supporting project leaders from the training stage
Transforming the idea into a business by providing personalised advice, organising talks by technical and business experts, and encouraging local networking with investors, partners, customers, beta-testers, etc
Planning, by teaching innovators to develop a strategic vision for business development

The entrepreneurial dynamic and the structuring of the support process have enabled ISAE-SUPAERO to be officially recognised as a regional incubator, through its acceptance into RESO IP+ by AD'OCC.

The Réseau des incubateurs et des pépinières d'Occitanie Pyrénées Méditerranées, or RESO IP+, is a community of organisations responsible for providing support and accommodation for project leaders and young companies that are innovative and/or have high development potential in the Occitan region.

Thanks to this membership, the Institut now has VIP access to all RESO IP+ events, to the sharing of best practice and to the community's expertise in supporting startups.

Membership of RESO IP+ also opens up potential opportunities for public funding and gives the Institute the power to prescribe loans for projects currently in incubation.

Mission French Tech is responsible for supporting the structuring and growth of the French startup ecosystem, both in France and internationally, with a goal of making France one of the most attractive countries in the world for startups looking to conquer international markets. It represents a network of thirteen French Tech capitals.

ISAE-SUPAERO's membership of the French Tech network in 2023 is a significant step forward, offering entrepreneurs the opportunity to find outlets for their products, obtain public funding, expand their networks, and raise the profile of the Institute.

In 2023, 8 startups have been created and are currently incubated at ISAE-SUPAERO.

The aim of IDEA3 is to federate and encourage innovation through close links between DGA, the armed forces, and the local economic environment - SMEs, start-ups, laboratories, and major groups.

Aerospace Valley is Europe's leading aerospace competitiveness cluster, serving three sectors in the Occitanie/Pyrénées-Méditerranée and Nouvelle-Aquitaine regions.

Aerospace Valley contributes to the development and competitiveness of its members through innovation by promoting collaborative research and development projects.

The cluster supports its members in setting up their collaborative innovation projects, an essential vector for maximising their chances of obtaining funding.

Finally, the cluster's expertise contributes to development, growth and transformation, and facilitates access to new markets.

The " Lanceur d'Étoiles" programme was born out of the association of national and regional partners, experts in ASD (Aeronautics, Space and Defence) and in the creation of deep tech startups (universities, national organisations, SATT, regional incubators, and accelerators).

The group's mission is to guide and help project leaders to propel their innovative technologies through value-creating deep-tech startups.

Created in July 2022, the aim of this consortium is to encourage the emergence and development of deep-tech startups in the aeronautics, space, and defence (ASD) sector in the Toulouse region.

Lanceur d'Étoiles offers a made-to-measure, solutions-oriented programme over 3 to 18 months, with Toulouse Tech Transfer as the single point of entry, via ad hoc monthly meetings based on needs with the various partners identified and one-off acceleration events (quarterly bootcamps) designed to encourage team building, network building, and raising the profile of projects.

The programme is focused on the needs of entrepreneurs and is solutions-oriented, offering visibility and easy access.

The first class of the Star Launcher programme is made up of nine startups, six of which are from ISAE-SUPAERO.

By its very nature, this programme is an ideal complement to the support offered by InnovSpace.

Fab&Co is the association of industrial Fablabs, Markerspaces and Innovation Labs.

The association brings together companies from industry, services, schools, etc.

Its ambition is to promote digital fabrication workshops, professional, and industrial third places with a business vocation, and to demonstrate their value within industrial organisations.

The members of the association also form a learning community, where everyone shares their knowledge and experience with the aim of advancing common knowledge.

The 11th Parachute Brigade and ISAE-SUPAERO have signed a framework agreement for the development of innovative field UAVs. This charter will be broken down into specific agreements based on future research themes in the field of UAVs.

On June 27, General Frédéric Danigo, representing the 11th Parachute Brigade (BP), and Olivier Lesbre, former President of ISAE-SUPAERO, signed a framework agreement for the development of innovative field drones. The aim of this partnership is to establish a secure legal framework for collaboration between the two organisations. The agreement, for an initial period of 5 years, will enable various partnerships to be set up in a wide range of research areas.

ISAE-SUPAERO will ensure that this collaboration takes place through the following actions:

Exchanges of information that may go as far as providing a state of the art in the field of UAVs and the creation of concepts
cooperative studies and analyses
the production of prototypes or demonstrators
joint use of facilities for prototyping, testing, trials and experiments
participation in integrated team projects, for a given period of human resources on the same site, including the possible use of reservists
the loan of equipment and/or demonstrator(s) by one or the other establishment

In this way, the 11th BP will benefit from ISAE-SUPAERO's expertise and facilities in UAV research, as well as from the Institute's innovation efforts.

PÉPITE ÉCRIN, the regional centre for promoting and supporting student entrepreneurship, supports students in their entrepreneurial endeavours.

Pépite ÉCRIN offers support through two pathways to expose students to new opportunities, satisfy their curiosity and enable them to discover, learn about and put into practice ideas and projects around entrepreneurship.

PÉPITE manages the National Status of Student Entrepreneur , which enables all students to benefit from financial support, to obtain waivers from the timetable or to transform their professional training period into a period dedicated to their entrepreneurial project, or to receive support.
PÉPITE also assists students with the D2E, the student entrepreneur diploma, which enables students and young graduates to receive specific support for their project and regain student status, as well as grant entitlements for those concerned.
PÉPITE mobilises the ecosystem to support young entrepreneurs, in particular a network of entrepreneur mentors, referrers in each institution, as well as a large number of experts, partner incubators, financial players, etc.
Please note: PEPITE can also welcome participants in continuing education who wish to change careers through entrepreneurship.

Student entrepreneurship is also supported within the Institute by the ISAE-SUPAERO ENTREPRENEURS student association.

Its aim is to help innovative projects emerge, foster a spirit of creativity and promote networking.

In this spirit of sharing experiences, meetings between young ISAE-SUPAERO graduates who are entrepreneurs and students are encouraged through conferences, a dedicated annual event, start-up cafés, and meetings with players in the world of incubation and business angels.

Startups From ISAE-SUPAERO

With its 800m² of floor space in the heart of the ISAE-SUPAERO campus, InnovSpace fosters technological innovation and supports students, faculty, and young graduates in their entrepreneurial ventures.

The workspace has a wide range of facilities and is a place where everyone on campus can exchange ideas, create, and innovate.

To date, eleven startups resulting from study or research projects can be housed here, benefiting from both the prototyping space and the offices on the first floor.

Our Graduates' Startups

ELDA Technology is developing a data processing platform for monitoring snow cover, to help rationalise the production of artificial snow.

ALPHA Impulsion is developing a self-destructing rocket. With ten members, it successfully completed its first ground tests at the end of 2023. Development is continuing with active and growing support from CNES.

TACITA Dynamics is developing a physical vibration control system that exploits non-linear dynamic phenomena to act on vibration attenuation and energy recovery.

VIRAJ H2 is developing a hybrid fuel cell and turbo-propulsion powertrain with heat and vapour recovery. The Lopez-Loreta Foundation grant (see p.32) will give it the resources to move from a low-power prototype to a structured research and development phase within three partner laboratories.

EMBRYA is developing an embedded neural network.

IRIS LAB is developing a wireless power transmission technology using optical flow.

PRINCIPLE OF THE EVENT

The Entretiens de Toulouse were set up in 2008 with the aim of promoting a no-holds-barred dialogue between all the players in the aerospace sector to facilitate the dissemination of scientific and technical knowledge!

The course is organised aroundthemedTalks spread over 4 half-days.

Participants choose 1 Talk per half-day from the 17 areas of discussion and 68 Talks on offer, and build their own “à la carte” training programme over 2 days.

Each Talk is attended by a maximum of 25 people. One or more recognised experts present the subject of the Talk for around 30 minutes, followed by discussion and debate in the audience. Members of the Académie de l’Air et de l’Espace act as moderators, ensuring the quality of the discussions.

To prepare for these Talks, the experts’ contributions are grouped together in a book, which is sent out one month before the Talks to registered participants. Participants can therefore choose which Interview(s) they will attend and prepare the questions they wish to ask, either in advance via this website or directly at the Interview.

No record of the discussions will be published following the Interviews, in order to guarantee industrial confidentiality.
