Category

Institute

During a ministerial visit to Toulouse on Friday, June 5, 2026, ISAE-SUPAERO had the privilege of welcoming Mr. Philippe Baptiste, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Space. This official visit led to high-level discussions on the institution’s priorities: aerospace engineering education, scientific excellence, national innovation, and student diversity.

A look back at the highlights of this segment

Welcomed by our Chief Executive, Chief Engineer Ms Baroux, the Minister was able to discuss the Institute’s strategic priorities. The meeting was further enriched by the presence of members of his cabinet and our key institutional and regional partners:

  • Ms Barbara Ballavoisne, Sub-Prefect and Deputy Secretary-General of the Haute-Garonne Prefecture;
  • Ms Nadia Pellefigue, Vice-President of the Occitanie Region responsible for Higher Education, Research, European Affairs and International Relations;
  • Ms Carole Drucker-Godard, Rector of the Occitanie Academic Region;
  • Ms Véronique Dominguez-Guillaume, Deputy Rector for Higher Education, Research and Innovation;
  • Ms Isabelle Ferrer, Executive Councillor responsible for relations with universities, representing Mr Jean-Luc Moudenc.
discussions between the Minister and the founders of two deep-tech start-ups from our ecosystem (Viraj Aero: Joseph RISSON, Class of 2024, CEO and co-founder / Alpha Impulsion: Martin GROS, Class of 2022, Chief Scientific Officer and co-founder)

The delegation learned about our entrepreneurship support programme at InnovSpace, our facility dedicated to supporting prototyping, creativity and disruptive entrepreneurship. Following a tour of the facilities available to our community, the Minister spoke with the founders of two deep-tech start-ups from our ecosystem: Viraj Aero and Alpha Impulsion, founded by Joseph Risson and Martin Gros.

The visit concluded with a convivial and sharing experience over lunch, celebrating the diversity of talent amongst our key players:

  • Students with outstanding academic records: the class representative for the Master of Aerospace Engineering, a future Weapons Systems and Technology Engineer (IETA), the President of our Junior Enterprise (on a Sciences Po / ISAE-SUPAERO dual degree), as well as a first-year general engineering student involved in our ISAE-SUPAERO OSE equal opportunities programme.
  • Our young female researchers: PhD and post-doctoral students specialising in Artificial Intelligence and sustainable aviation.
  • Our female and male research lecturers who promote aerospace science on the international stage. The teams were able to demonstrate the impact of our cutting-edge work, particularly through our advances in space systems, planetary defence, space propulsion and neuroergonomics (analysis of human factors and mental workload in extreme environments).

A big thank you to the Minister, his office and all the institutional decision-makers for their active engagement and continued support for our mission: to train the best talent for a sovereign and sustainable future!

The Origins of SUPAERO: Two Previously Unpublished Archives Offer a Deep Dive into the School’s History

Publication Date

05 June 2026

Category

Institute

The history of an institution is not merely reflected in its rankings or partnerships. It is embodied in the faces of those who have shaped it, the decisions that have rooted it in a community, and the men and women who have breathed life into it.

Today, we are making two documents of rare historical value available to our entire community: those eligible for entrance exams, students, alumni, former students and enthusiasts of the history of aeronautics.

Marc Pélegrin, a visionary engineer

A biography to understand a founder

Written by Jean-Claude Ripoll, General Engineer of Armaments and honorary member of the Air and Space Academy, who was a student of Marc Pélegrin in 1960 and later became director of ENSAE (SUPAERO) in 1991, this biography of Marc Pélegrin traces the career of a visionary engineer whose influence left a profound mark on the school and, beyond that, on the aerospace landscape in Toulouse and at ONERA. Through this detailed and rigorous portrait, an entire era comes into focus: one in which France was decentralising and patiently building its technical and scientific excellence in the field of aeronautics and space.

A film to witness history being made

How did SUPAERO establish itself in Toulouse? What role did Marc Pélegrin play in this formative period? A documentary film answers these questions with a deeply personal and family-oriented perspective: directed by Michel Pélegrin, Marc’s son, and enriched by the journalistic insight of Dominique Louise Pélegrin, his daughter, this filmed account is both a historical document and a family tribute. A unique way of seeing the school’s history through the eyes of those who experienced it from the inside.

Their generosity allows everyone to reconnect with the school’s roots.

Acknowledgements

ISAE-SUPAERO would like to extend its sincere thanks to Jean-Claude Ripoll for the care and rigour he has brought to the writing of this biography, and to Michel Pélegrin for agreeing to share these exceptionally rich family and historical archives with the whole community.

A destiny shaped between MIT and Toulouse

There are figures whose names eventually become part of the city’s fabric. Since July 2024, an avenue named after Marc Pélegrin has run alongside the ONERA and ISAE-SUPAERO campuses in Toulouse. A tribute etched into the city for a man who literally anchored the school in its local area.

A graduate of the École Polytechnique (class of 1943) and SUPAERO in 1949, Marc Pélegrin understood before many others what would be the strength of the engineering grandes écoles of the future: the inseparable link between teaching and research. He had discovered the model at MIT, where he had the opportunity to further his studies between 1949 and 1950. On his return to France, he founded CERA in 1958—the first research centre in control systems affiliated with a grande école—and then, from 1964, the relocation of the École nationale supérieure de l’Aéronautique to Toulouse, making the inclusion of a research centre specific to the school an essential condition. This demand — deemed bold, even provocative in Paris — earned him the task of leading this historic mission. He became director of the school in September 1969, and simultaneously administrator of the CERT (Centre d’études et de recherches de Toulouse), an entity created in conjunction with ONERA to guarantee the scientific freedom of research.

What is now known as ISAE-SUPAERO, with its world-renowned research laboratories and its roots in the heart of Europe’s aerospace capital, bears the deep imprint of his vision.

Marc Pélegrin passed away on 1 January 2024, as he was entering his 101st year.

Marie-Hélène Baroux

These archives are an invaluable treasure for our community. Understanding the history of ISAE-SUPAERO means understanding why we train the engineers and researchers of tomorrow to the high standards that define us. Marc Pélegrin, a visionary, laid the foundations for the ambition we pursue today: to make Toulouse the beating heart of European aerospace, and ISAE-SUPAERO, alongside ONERA, its beacon of excellence

Marie-Hélène Baroux Director General of ISAE-SUPAERO

Arnaud Prost, ESA reserve astronaut and ISAE-SUPAERO alumnus: “I was incredibly lucky to be here”

Fighter pilot and reserve astronaut with the European Space Agency (ESA), Arnaud Prost returned to his former school on Thursday March 28 to meet 200 secondary school students as part of the ISAE SUPAERO OSE program. It was an opportunity for him to recall the “great memories” of his student experience at ISAE-SUPAERO, his long-standing commitment to the student social outreach program and the “Aquanauts” scheme he set up with OSE l'ISAE-SUPAERO. And in passing, he offers a few words of advice to young people who might dream of following in his footsteps: “Don't let yourself be convinced that one of these paths isn't for you!” A 2017 graduate of ISAE-SUPAERO, Arnaud Prost is among those selected for the ESA Astronaut Class of 2022, alongside Sophie Adenot and Anthea Comellini, both also alumni of the school. They join other illustrious ESA astronauts who have already studied at the school: Thomas Pesquet, Luca Parmitano and Samantha Cristoforetti. Since 1970, ISAE-SUPAERO has contributed to the progress of the space age through its training, research and innovation activities. As the only organization in France to offer degree courses (engineering, master's, specialized master's, doctorate) covering all 22 space-related themes identified by CNES, the Institute offers a royal road to space careers. The 2026 graphic charter

More modern, more legible and resolutely forward-looking, our new graphic charter fully embodies the Institute’s evolution. It is a visual expression of what makes us strong: academic excellence, innovation, international openness and the community spirit that brings us together.

Designed down to the smallest detail, the redesign offers a complete and coherent graphic ecosystem: new uses for the logos, contemporary typography, a revamped colour palette, dynamic gradations, customised pictograms, etc. Not forgetting the operational use of document templates (Word, PowerPoint), presentation materials for our courses and the Institute, and kakemonos.

All designed to harmonise and reinforce the impact of our communications, both on a day-to-day basis and internationally!

This new visual identity is the fruit of a collective effort, carried out with great care and creativity by the Digital and Multimedia Communications Department’s graphics studio, part of the school’s Marketing, Prospecting and Communications department.

A huge well done to the whole team for this remarkable achievement, which gives a new dimension to our image and supports the Institute’s ambitions.

CUBE ÉTAT Awards Ceremony: ISAE-SUPAERO Takes the Top Spot

Publication Date

10 March 2026

From November 2024 to November 2025, ISAE-SUPAERO participated in the second edition of the CUBE État competition. This national challenge pits government buildings against one another with a noble goal: to achieve maximum energy savings by focusing solely on adjustments and usage patterns.

ISAE-SUPAERO takes first place

After 12 months of fierce competition, the results were revealed at the awards ceremony held on 29 January 2026 in Paris.
ISAE-SUPAERO distinguished itself by winning one of the podium places.
ISAE-SUPAERO came first in the national ranking for the “offices from 2,500 to 5,000 m²” category, and was awarded the Golden Cube.

With energy savings of 19.9% and environmental savings of 25.7%, it was also ranked 13ᵉ overall, all categories combined.

A strong commitment to sustainable development

The Institut, which is heavily involved in energy transition and sustainable development, wanted to take part in this competition by entering two office buildings renovated in 2021. The aim is to prove that even in buildings that already consume little energy, it is still possible to go further by optimising technical settings and improving the day-to-day practices of occupants.

A collective success

Above all, this award reflects a collective effort. Pauline Bénard Lironcourt, the Institute’s energy performance officer, led the initiative. To meet this challenge, she mobilised the technical services to optimise and programme the equipment, while involving users in a wide range of fun activities: a kick-off meeting, comfort surveys, quizzes, visits to the technical installations, a day of activities around the cyclotube with the Haute-Garonne Environnement association (see photos below) and regular reminders of eco-actions, particularly before the holidays.

These initiatives have been very well received, and the occupants have participated fully in the process. The Institute was also nominated in the “best technical referent” section.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to everyone for this team effort, and thanks to Pauline for the impetus and dynamism she brought to bear to get everyone on board!

AeroMAPS: an ISAE-SUPAERO reference tool for exploring the possible futures of aviation

The AeroMAPS tool, developed by two ISAE-SUPAERO researchers, Scott Delbecq and Thomas Planès, can be used to assess the environmental impacts of air transport and the effectiveness or limitations of levers to decarbonize the sector! Initially designed for research and training purposes, the tool is now a multidisciplinary, open-source platform, accessible to experts as well as institutional, industrial and associative decision-makers. Its development has been integrated into the work of the Institute for Sustainable Aviation (ISA), an interdisciplinary research institute headed by Laurent Joly, whose aim is to address the issue of #aviation's ecological transition in all its complexity. By playing on the sector's transition levers, AeroMAPS users can define the scenarios whose impacts they wish to analyze. For example, the introduction of new aircraft types, the use of new fuels or the rate of growth in air traffic. AeroMAPS is the first air transport scenario exploration platform built on an open-source scientific methodology. It was initially designed and developed to enable researchers to explore air transport transition scenarios in detail. It was then rapidly integrated into training programs: first in the ISAE-SUPAERO engineering curriculum, then in continuing education programs. To facilitate use of the tool, a partnership was formed with Sopra Steria. This major tech player built the platform's new web interface to enhance the user experience and make it accessible to decision-makers. Research work recently took on a socio-economic dimension with a PhD prepared by Antoine Salgas, in partnership with TBS Education. Antoine Salgas has also created a traffic and emissions inventory in collaboration with the Dutch Delft University of Technology. These two aspects of his thesis gave rise to an AeroMAPS “satellite” tool, called AeroSCOPE, which enables analyses to be partitioned and regionalized. Today, the comprehensive, multi-disciplinary aspect of AeroMAPS is a decision-making aid for the entire #aeronautics ecosystem. Through its scientific expertise, ISAE-SUPAERO contributes to the debate and to the future of aviation.

Having a rich, fulfilling, and globally minded student life is part of ISAE-SUPAERO's DNA. To further enhance this experience, the Institute has now adopted a Student Life Master Plan (SDVE) for the period 2026-2031, a unique roadmap that embodies its strategic vision and supports its ambition: to offer an attractive, inclusive living environment that is conducive to the success of every student.

Four main themes

The result of a wide-ranging participatory process involving students, staff and partners, the SDVE is based on four main themes:

  • Living on a pleasant and inclusive campus
  • Enjoying student life in complete safety
  • Getting involved in school life by being supported and valued
  • Interacting with the ecosystem to better invest in the future

This plan marks a turning point in the way the Institut thinks about campus life, student life and community life: from now on, these dimensions will be built together, coordinated and aligned around common objectives. It strengthens existing initiatives, encourages synergies and guides new innovative projects to enhance attractiveness and well-being.

Supported by the General Management and the Deputy Management in charge of student life, the SDVE will form a long-term part of the next Objectives and Performance Contract (2027-2031). Based on an analysis of students’ experiences, studies carried out (including Happy@School) and signals from the ecosystem, it is intended to evolve regularly in order to remain as close as possible to expectations.

A strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility

This master plan is part of ISAE-SUPAERO’s commitment to society and the environment. It is a response to the various CSR initiatives undertaken in areas such as training, research, innovation and campus life.

In addition, the Institute applies a zero-tolerance policy to acts of harassment, discrimination and sexual and gender-based violence, with numerous initiatives to prevent and deal with such acts.

3 questions to Marie Delaroche, 3ᵉ year student and MDRS 293 crew commander

Since February 18, seven ISAE-SUPAERO engineering students have been living a simulated Martian life and carrying out experiments in collaboration with CNES and several research laboratories at The Mars Society's Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in UTAH (USA)! For the second time, the mission is led by a woman: Marie Delaroche, a passionate #spaceexplorer, who was already part of crew 275 departing in 2023. We asked her 3 questions to find out more about the challenges of this mission and her feelings as #flightcommander! Alongside her, three young women and three young men in their 2ᵉ year of #engineering studies have taken on the roles of astronomer, scientist, botanist, journalist, health worker and onboard engineer. They are all members of the Mars Club ISAE-SUPAERO, a student association for the popularization of science focused on the Red Planet and the missions dedicated to its exploration and study. They are currently experimenting with AI4U, the artificial intelligence that assists astronauts in their daily tasks (environmental measurements, voice recognition, emergency exercises). They are also conducting a science popularization experiment in collaboration with secondary school pupils. Inspired by the film The Martian, in which an astronaut grows potatoes on the Red Planet, the aim of this experiment is to compare plant growth in Martian soil with growth in terrestrial soil! Maurice MAYOUX - SUPAERO 1924 (ARTS & MÉTIERS Cluny 1920), who died on September 4, 1997, expressed in his will his wish that, with the proceeds of his estate bequeathed to the Société des Ingénieurs Arts et Métiers, French language prizes for Arts et Métiers students and mechanical engineering prizes for SUPAERO students be created, in association with the name of his wife Jeanne Dauriac. “Annual award of a Prize reserved for the student in the last year of study, whatever his or her speciality, but chosen for his or her knowledge of the whole of General Mathematics and its application in ‘practical’ constructions, constructions to be considered on the whole of their qualities: principle, simplicity, efficiency, probable feasibility, cost price as restricted as possible.” Paul then managed to join Zipline, still a young robotics start-up in Silicon Valley. There, he interned with the two-person Guidance, Navigation and Control (GN&C) team. He contributed to the development of a drone simulation environment and GN&C systems. Today, Zipline operates the world's largest and first drone delivery system in Rwanda, Ghana and the USA, providing a solution to the last-mile problem in healthcare. This solution saves lives by maximizing the availability of essential medical products while minimizing waste and guaranteeing the cold chain. Paul continues to contribute to Zipline's mission since 2020 via the skills he acquired as an engineer at ISAE-SUPAERO and Stanford. He received this award for the variety and excellence of his career path and the practical achievements that have led him to evolve in the startup ecosystem. The Mayoux-Dauriac prize is awarded for the use of knowledge acquired at the School in the exercise of one of the various facets of the engineering profession, and for the usefulness of the projects carried out for industry and services with a positive economic balance sheet.

Pablo Caron receives the Fondation ISAE-SUPAERO thesis prize for his thesis at ISAE-SUPAERO

Pablo Caron receives the Fondation ISAE-SUPAERO thesis prize for his work on the study of electron-induced singular events in integrated technologies. A graduate of the Technique Spatial et Instrumentation master's program at Université III Paul Sabatier (Toulouse), Pablo Caron prepared his doctoral thesis under the supervision of Christophe Inguimbert (ONERA), Laurent Artola (ONERA) and Robert Ecoffet (CNES) in ONERA's DPHY (Physics Instrumentation Environment Space Department) in Toulouse. His work, funded by ONERA and CNES, focused on the study of electron-induced singular events in embedded technologies. On-board electronics and, in particular, on-board memories, are sensitive to the radiative environments in which they operate. These sensitivities can take many forms, from the loss of data to the destruction of a component. In 2014, the first measurements of errors (SEU) in an SRAM memory were carried out. Pablo Caron's work is part of this effort to understand the physical mechanisms responsible for the errors observed. Pablo Caron is an engineer- Researcher at ONERA Toulouse in the DPHY/ERS unit (Spatial Radiative Environment) whose main missions are the measurement of particles inhabiting radiation belts and the development of models dedicated to the specifying environments associated with future space missions. A thesis prize awarded by the Fondation ISAE-SUPAERO for the excellence of the research carried out and the prospects for application of the thesis.

Eloa Guillotin and Hugo Tarlé receive the Mayoux Dauriac 2020 prize from ISAE-SUPAERO ENSICA ALUMNI

Eloa Guillotin and Hugo Tarlé (S2020) have been awarded the Mayoux-Dauriac prize by the ISAE-SUPAERO ENSICA Alumni Association. The prize is awarded to an engineering student in the final year of the ISAE-SUPAERO engineering curriculum for practical achievements during schooling and various internships, in accordance with the wishes of Maurice MAYOUX (S 1924). Eloa and Hugo form a true binomial. They are both engineers from ISAE-SUPAERO (S2020), and have followed the same training path, at the École Polytechnique, HEC Paris and the University of California at Berkeley (USA). They are passionate about space, and launchers in particular. Since they met in their first year, they have also been involved in entrepreneurship, heading up the school's entrepreneurship association and organizing Europe's first space startup weekend in partnership with Airbus Defence and Space, CNES and ESA. During their engineering studies, they set up Attom, a company developing instant recharging products for smartphones. Their project received two notable entrepreneurial awards in Toulouse. Their subsequent career path also taught them the basics of setting up a technology company. Following their Master's degree in X-HEC Entrepreneurship at HEC Paris, and a semester at the University of California at Berkeley, they set up Beyond Aerospace. Eloa takes a long-term view of the goals to be achieved, and her natural organization enables her to set precise, realistic milestones. Her ambition and managerial good humor make her the CEO of Beyond Aerospace. Hugo has strong technical skills, particularly in fluid mechanics and data science. A true do-it-yourselfer, he has built a bi-liquid H2O2/ethanol engine, solid propulsion boosters and experimental rockets in his garden. His rigor and exacting standards make him the CTO of Beyond Aerospace. Their company is part of an economic system they learned about through their Master's thesis supervised by Sandy Tirtey, Launch Director of Rocket Lab - the world's first and only operational commercial micro-launch vehicle to date. Their curiosity and passion for space and technological entrepreneurship, through their technical experiments now applied with Beyond Aerospace and their overall achievements, demonstrate a real industrial and economic interest in the micro-launch vehicle market, which has enabled them to win this prize, the result of their excellence.

EXOTRAIL wins the Fondation ISAE-SUPAERO entrepreneurship prize

The Fondation ISAE-SUPAERO entrepreneurship prize has been awarded to Paul Lascombes, a graduate of ISAE-SUPAERO (S2017) and Ecole Polytechnique (X2013), co-founder and Scientific Director of EXOTRAIL created in 2017. Exotrail is a start-up that designs and supplies transportation solutions for the space industry. It markets electric propulsion systems to small satellite manufacturers. It all began for Paul during his studies at the École Polytechnique (X2013), where he carried out a scientific project to develop an instrument for measuring the thrust of an electric microthruster. Thanks to this project, carried out in 2014/2015, he became interested in the space field and the commercialization opportunities for this new type of thruster adapted to nanosatellites. This project will be the seed of the Exotrail adventure launched in 2015. During his studies, first at École polytechnique, then at ISAE-SUPAERO (S2017), Paul Lascombes developed both his scientific and entrepreneurial culture, while starting to work more and more intensively for Exotrail. In 2017, following his end-of-study internship at Airbus Defence and Space, he joined Exotrail full-time to prepare two projects: building the company, from a strategic and technical point of view, to carry out an initial fundraising, but also the technical animation that enables them to capitalize on the knowledge acquired during development with SATT Paris-Saclay, (Société d'Accélération du Transfert de Technologies (SATT) facilitates and develops the transfer of innovations from public academic research) ... This was to lay the foundations for the technologies needed for our demonstration mission, all with a small team of 6 people. After this first round of funding and the consequent growth of the team, Paul's work focused on three main areas in line with his role as Scientific Director: - Operational management of the Toulouse-based software development team. - Technical leadership of the whole team and coordination of R&D. His role is to constructively challenge the technical choices made by the development teams. He/she is responsible for ensuring the overall coherence of activities and the technical interactions of the various developments, and for coordinating R&D actions. - The definition of Exotrail's long-term strategy. He leads thinking on the SpaceVan (orbital transport vehicle housing nanosatellites to transport them to their final operational orbit from launch orbit.) and stays connected on launch and in-orbit service issues. The entrepreneurship prize launched by the ISAE-SUPAERO Foundation in 2019 aims to encourage entrepreneurship, and is a way of supporting start-ups in their innovative and promising projects, particularly in the field of aeronautics, space and defense.

ISAE-SUPAERO doubles its employment rate for people with disabilities

Publication Date

13 November 2025

Category

Institute

In five years, our Institute has increased its employment rate for people with disabilities from less than 3% to nearly 6%, a result that demonstrates a strong and lasting commitment to inclusion.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the FIPHFP (Fonds pour l’insertion des personnes handicapées dans la Fonction publique), our Institute has just renewed our agreement with the Fund. Our partnership, which began in 2021, is now bearing fruit thanks to financial and strategic support that has enabled us to double the employment rate of people with disabilities within our institution.

Structured governance for concrete results

This progress is based on a structured disability policy steered by dedicated governance, bringing together the human resources department, the medical-social team and a diversity and disability manager.

“We’ve noticed that employees are now more inclined to declare their disability situation in a relationship of trust,” stresses Arnaud Ancel, head of the human resources department. “Our objective is to exceed 6% in the coming years”.

This drive is underpinned by ongoing communication and awareness-raising campaigns aimed at all staff, fostering a culture of inclusiveness within the institution.

Apprenticeships, a key route to integration

Three of the 18 apprentices who joined our services in 2025 are disabled. The FIPHFP covers a significant part of their remuneration, thereby facilitating their integration into the workforce and enhancing the diversity of our teams.

In addition to recruitment, our establishment has developed personalised support for disabled employees and ongoing awareness-raising among managers, to ensure that they remain in employment under the best possible conditions.

Training tomorrow’s engineers for inclusion

ISAE-SUPAERO’s commitment is not limited to our responsibility as an employer. Our Institute also includes the issue of disability in the training of our students, future managers and decision-makers in the aerospace sector.

Handi-management training, an escape game on dyslexia, introductions to handisport: these are just some of the initiatives that punctuate the curriculum of our engineering students and raise their awareness of the challenges of inclusion in the workplace.

Personalised management is also in place to support our students with disabilities throughout their time at the Institut.

“As a public institution, we have a dual responsibility: to be an exemplary employer and to train engineers who are aware of the challenges of inclusion,” concludes Arnaud Ancel.”
