Supplier Speed Meeting: another success for ISAE-SUPAERO’s innovative event on public procurement!

Publication Date

21 June 2024

Category

Institute

This day, organised by ISAE-SUPAERO’s purchasing department in partnership with ENAC and CNRS Toulouse, is a unique opportunity to develop collaborations with suppliers on targeted purchasing projects.

A reverse sourcing approach

Speed Meeting Suppliers 2024 | ISAE-SUPAERO
For the past three years, ISAE-SUPAERO has been offering an innovative reverse sourcing format, organised by the Institute’s purchasing department. The idea? The idea is to bring potential service providers to the Institute to facilitate contacts between suppliers, specifiers and buyers.

The Supplier Speed Meeting provides an opportunity to find out more about companies’ solutions and their specific technical requirements. By adopting an innovative approach to public procurement, ISAE-SUPAERO is emphasising a targeted definition of requirements that is as close as possible to the economic offer, and that is co-constructed by the stakeholders involved in the purchasing process.

“This event is the best way to achieve quality sourcing between buyers and specifiers,” comments Anne Couderc, Head of Purchasing at ISAE-SUPAERO. “This year, we are particularly interested in purchases related to photovoltaic energy to develop our energy at the Institute, digital tools for human resources development and reused furniture”.

60 companies hosted on campus

Speed Meeting Suppliers 2024 | ISAE-SUPAERO
Sixty companies were welcomed to the ISAE-SUPAERO campus by the purchasing department’s organising team, from fields as varied as re-use furniture, photovoltaic shades, scientific equipment hire, events, co-optation schemes, IT intellectual services, etc. Institutional players, including Toulouse Métropole Emploi and the Réseau des achats durables en Occitanie (Rés’OCC), also took part in the event.

Institutional players, including Toulouse Métropole Emploi and the Réseau des achats durables en Occitanie (Rés’OCC), also took part in the event.

A day that confirms its success year after year!

An award-winning approach

In 2021, ISAE-SUPAERO organised an experimental Supplier Speed Meeting. The Conseil National des Achats and Décision Achat Public awarded the Institute a Supplier Relations Trophy in recognition of this reverse sourcing approach.

Apprenticeship tax: invest in the future by supporting ISAE-SUPAERO!

Publication Date

24 May 2024

Category

Institute

What is the apprenticeship tax?

Apprenticeship tax (TA) is a system used to finance expenditure on apprenticeships and technological and vocational training at training establishments. It is paid by companies in two parts (the main part and the balance).

You therefore have the option of directing the balance of this tax to an accredited establishment of your choice. The main part is collected monthly. The balance is collected during two campaigns, during which you can indicate the name of the organisation receiving the balance. The law for the Freedom to Choose your Professional Future of 5 September 2018 simplifies the circuit for collecting and distributing the balance, and the TA is now deducted directly by Urssaf.

The apprenticeship tax represents a major stake for ISAE-SUPAERO: by directing the balance of your TA to the Institute, you are investing in teaching and technical resources that are essential to our learners’ projects and training!

Click here to find out more about the TA payment process for investing in ISAE-SUPAERO!

3 questions to Marie Delaroche, 3ᵉ year student and MDRS 293 crew commander

Since February 18, seven ISAE-SUPAERO engineering students have been living a simulated Martian life and carrying out experiments in collaboration with CNES and several research laboratories at The Mars Society's Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in UTAH (USA)! For the second time, the mission is led by a woman: Marie Delaroche, a passionate #spaceexplorer, who was already part of crew 275 departing in 2023. We asked her 3 questions to find out more about the challenges of this mission and her feelings as #flightcommander! Alongside her, three young women and three young men in their 2ᵉ year of #engineering studies have taken on the roles of astronomer, scientist, botanist, journalist, health worker and onboard engineer. They are all members of the Mars Club ISAE-SUPAERO, a student association for the popularization of science focused on the Red Planet and the missions dedicated to its exploration and study. They are currently experimenting with AI4U, the artificial intelligence that assists astronauts in their daily tasks (environmental measurements, voice recognition, emergency exercises). They are also conducting a science popularization experiment in collaboration with secondary school pupils. Inspired by the film The Martian, in which an astronaut grows potatoes on the Red Planet, the aim of this experiment is to compare plant growth in Martian soil with growth in terrestrial soil! DAUR ranking

7th place for ISAE-SUPAERO

An AAA rating for ISAE-SUPAERO, which is well placed in the DAUR ranking of engineering schools for 2023! With a final score of 73, the Institute is ranked joint 7th with ENSAE Paris and Télécom Paris, two places up on the 2022 ranking. It is also the leading engineering school in the ranking outside the Paris region!

A rigorous methodology

DAUR (Data Analysis for University Rankings), an independent benchmarking platform for higher education in France, has been publishing rankings of 185 French engineering schools since 2019. It uses a robust scientific methodology, based on relevant criteria and statistical algorithms designed to eliminate bias. The data used comes mainly from SCEI statistics, Parcoursup, the CTI’s annual certification campaign and the CDEFI’s professional integration survey.

The schools are classified according to 5 criteria, harmonised according to the output sectors and the size of the establishment:

  • Selectivity: the school’s average level of student selection;
  • Employability: the value of the degree in the eyes of companies in the school’s target sectors;
  • Research: students’ interest in research when they leave the school;
  • International: the intensity of contact between students throughout their international career;
  • Alumni: the proportion of students from the last fifty years who have achieved the highest level of academic, professional, entrepreneurial or political success.

Les Entretiens de l'Excellence" event

ISAE-SUPAERO has been hosting the Entretiens de l’Excellence for 13 years. This event, organised by the association “Les Entretiens de l’Excellence”, is part of the Institute’s active commitment to equal opportunities and a continuation of the actions of the Cordée de la réussite OSE l’ISAE-SUPAERO. The 7th edition was held on the ISAE-SUPAERO campus on January 17th.

Over the course of the day, 800 secondary school students were able to meet 90 volunteer professional speakers, representing around twenty different sectors of activity (aeronautics, space, art, law, science and technology, commerce, environment and sustainable development, etc.).

The speakers shared their backgrounds, experiences and information about the different sectors and professions. Middle and high school students were also able to attend two themed workshops of their choice. For their part, parents were able to take part in workshops on careers guidance and ParcourSup run by the rectorat and local associations.

This year’s sponsor was Allan Petre, a recent graduate on placement at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Nearly 50 students from ISAE-SUPAERO, UPSSITECH and TBS took part as volunteers. A great show of solidarity for equal opportunities!

This edition of the Entretiens de l’Excellence was made possible by OSE, ISAE-SUPAERO / INP / INSA / TBS / Paul Sabatier / Mines d’Albi, the partners who ran the parents’ workshops: Rectorat de Toulouse, Pro Avenir Jeunes, JobIRL, TutoWeb Toulouse, Université de Toulouse, and the sponsor of the 2024 edition, Airbus Protect.

The OSE InGÉ program provides personalized support for young girls and scholarship-holders throughout their preparatory classes for the Grandes Ecoles (CPGE), helping them to build their future plans and develop their ambitions. The stakes are threefold: the democratization of education linked to profound rather than structural transformations, the strengthening of #social openness in the grandes écoles and the engineering field, and the creation of an innovative scheme on the scale of an Occitanie region. Begun in 2022, the program was brought to life thanks to the collaboration of the teaching teams at three Toulouse high schools: Lycée Bellevue, Lycée Déodat de Séverac and Lycée Pierre de Fermat, the mobilization of ISAE-SUPAERO alumni and the support of our partners: the Conseil Régional de La Région Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée, Airbus, Elior Group and CREPS de Toulouse. It consists of : - customized mentoring: personalized, one-to-one support from a mentor who is an alumnus of the school, depending on availability and needs. An ISAE-SUPAERO alumnus provides support right up to the competitive entrance exams, offering his or her experience, support and listening skills to help answer questions and reinforce choices; - immersion courses to discover the campus of a Grande École, talk to former CPGE students and professionals with inspiring backgrounds, meet your mentor, consolidate your knowledge and learn how to better manage your CPGE years; - one-off events at partner high schools: an #orientation evening, testimonials from professionals, conferences, dinner/debates, training for #CPGE teachers on how to support vulnerable students. Marc Pélegrin, the driving force behind Supaero’s influence in Toulouse, has passed away

Publication Date

10 January 2024

Category

Institute

Marc Pélegrin, former Director of SupAéro and ONERA-CERT

He has helped to make Toulouse the European capital of aeronautics and space. More specifically, Professor Marc Pélegrin’s innovative vision has kept SupAéro at the forefront of higher education in aeronautics and space. He was responsible for the school’s successful move from Paris to Toulouse and for the creation of the ONERA-CERT centre on the same site. In this way, he revolutionised engineering training by merging training and research activities on the same campus.

As a scientist, Marc Pélegrin has also made a major contribution to research in the aeronautics and space sectors. A former student of Polytechnique and SupAéro (then located in Paris), he first taught at SupAéro, in the field of servo-controls and calculating machines. The research he initiated developed over the decades, opening up a wide range of perspectives.

It was in 1964 that he was asked to lead the transfer of SupAéro to Toulouse, against a backdrop of decentralisation. Although there was little enthusiasm for the project, Marc Pélegrin immediately set himself up as a visionary, seeing in his mission “the possibility of achieving what had struck me so much in the USA”, at MIT, where he had completed his studies: combining training and research. “At that institute, research and teaching were completely intertwined, and students often took part in research work”. As a result, he was able to convince the government to create a study and research centre in symbiosis with the school, under the authority of a joint director.

"I saw in this mission the possibility of realising what had struck me so much in the USA, when in 1945-50 I had the chance to complete my studies at MIT. At that institute, research and teaching were completely intertwined, and students often took part in research work.

Marc Pélegrin Former Director of SupAéro and ONERA-CERT

In terms of training, Marc Pélegrin has also seen things through: while SupAéro’s classes numbered barely 100 students, the school has three 200-seat lecture theatres, student residences, remarkable sports facilities and a Nord 262 aircraft for in-flight practical work. What’s more, the complementary relationship between CERT and SupAéro quickly made the school a pioneer among engineering schools: in 1974, SupAéro was one of the first to be accredited to award doctoral degrees in engineering.

Marc Pélegrin was joint director of the two institutions from 1968 to 1978, and then of ONERA-CERT until 1988. Over the years, SupAéro has trained hundreds of engineers who have gone on to contribute to the extraordinary success of the French aerospace industry. CERT also made a significant contribution, in particular through the pioneering work carried out in Marc Pélegrin’s scientific field of automatic control.

A centenary tribute in 2023, a Marc Pélegrin prize in 2024

On November 28, Marc Pélegrin’s 100th birthday was celebrated on the ISAE-SUPAERO campus in the presence of his family, former students and colleagues. This day, which he was unable to attend due to his state of health, highlighted the richness, importance and variety of the activities that have developed on the basis of his work and which today remain at the forefront of the world, both in the field of training and research, at ISAE-SUPAERO, ONERA and other laboratories.

On this occasion, ISAE-SUPAERO and ONERA announced the creation of a “Marc Pélegrin Prize”, to be awarded from 2024 onwards at international EuroGNC conferences for outstanding scientific contributions in the field of automatic control applied to the aerospace sector.

This ranking, considered to be the most prestigious in the world, was prepared by a team of experts led by Professor John Ioannidis, eminent professor at Stanford University.

Of the 8 million scientists considered to be active in the world, in 22 fields and 176 sub-fields, only 2% appear in this ranking. The study is based on the Scopus database, which provides standardised information on citations, the h-index, the hm-index adjusted for co-authorship, citations of articles in different author positions and a composite indicator.

This database was created to provide an up-to-date analysis and a public list of the best scientists. Eight ISAE-SUPAERO teacher-researchers feature in this ranking, highlighting the quality of the school’s scientific research:

  • Olivier Besson: his research activities are in the field of statistical processing of signals and networks, mainly the formation of robust adaptive beams, adaptive detection and estimation, with main applications in the field of radar;
  • Christophe Bouvet (Institut Clément Ader – ISAE-SUPAERO): his research activities are in the field of Mechanics of Aeronautical Structures and Materials, and in particular the Dimensioning of Composite Structures;
  • Frédéric Dehais (ISAE-SUPAERO): his research activities are in the fields of neuroergonomics, human factors, computer science and signal processing;
  • Christian Gogu (Institut Clément Ader – ISAE-SUPAERO): his research activities focus on the numerical mechanics of sustainable aerostructures;
  • Pierre Magnan (ISAE-SUPAERO): his research activities are in the field of image sensors;
  • Thierry Jardin (ISAE-SUPAERO): his research activities are in the field of fluid dynamics;
  • Jean-Marc Moschetta (ISAE-SUPAERO): his research activities are in the field of aerodynamics;
  • Thomas Oberlin (ISAE-SUPAERO): his research activities are in the field of artificial intelligence and imaging.
