The Range of Programmes Offered by Engineering Schools

Under the Supervision of the Ministry of Armed Forces

As the Ministry's expert in this field, the ASD provides targeted high-level accredited programmes, ranging from short job adaptation courses to diploma or qualification courses at the leading engineering schools under the Ministry's supervision, thereby helping to generate expertise.

A Consortium of Three Entities

Created in 2023, the ASD is made up of three entities grouped together in a consortium, coordinated on a rotating basis by one of the members:

Institut Supérieur de l’Aéronautique et de l’Espace (ISAE-SUPAERO),
the École de l’Air et de l’Espace (EAE),
the Centre de Formation aux Opérations Spatiales Militaires (CFOSM) of the Commandement de l’Espace (CDE).

A Clear, Shared Programme Portfolio

This merger will make it possible to offer a clear, common range of programmes covering both the academic and operational aspects of the space sector:

scientific and technological skills from ISAE-SUPAERO;
scientific and military skills from EAE; and
mastery of space operations from CFOSM.

Open to interministerial and foreign partners, as well as to other stakeholders in the field such as CNES, ONERA, and industrialists in the sector, the ASD represents one of the preferred vectors for learning in the field and also for exchanges and meetings with the academic and industrial world of the space ecosystem.

The space sector is undergoing rapid change, marked by technological breakthroughs and new use cases. ASD is responding to the new programme challenges facing players in the military space sector, and ISAE-SUPAERO is providing all its scientific expertise and experience in educating civil and military engineers.

Supporting ISAE-SUPAERO through corporate sponsorship means supporting the development of new skills and resources, future talent and innovative projects.

What is Sponsorship?

Sponsorship is a form of support governed by a tax system that allows companies to deduct 60% of their donation from their taxable income.

Sponsorship chairs are unique in that they develop a long-term mutual commitment, generally from 3 to 5 years or longer.

The sponsorship is based on sponsorship agreements or corporate chairs with the ISAE-SUPAERO Foundation.

Which Projects Should You Support?

Together, we can build a sustainable project based on the challenges facing the Institute and your company.

In 2013, ISAE-SUPAERO and Airbus created the CEDAR 'Chair for Eco-Design of AiRcraft' with the aim of defining disruptive concepts for air transportation by introducing innovative technologies right from the aircraft design stage. In 2019, they renewed their partnership to build on previous years' efforts by integrating a more global approach to environmental engineering. The CEDAR Chair is thus helping to raise awareness and train future aeronautical engineers in the sustainable development of air transportation.

Three Areas of Focus

International Partnerships of Excellence

The establishment of international partnerships of excellence based on ISAE-SUPAERO’s existing programmes (Masters, Advanced Master, Post-Graduate Diplomas, Certificates, short modules, and online courses) to welcome international students and professionals, with the possibility of setting up double degree programmes with universities in partner countries.

Some achievements:

Education of engineers, young professors and officers from a large number of countries via ISAE-SUPAERO’s existing courses, in collaboration with an industrial or institutional partner, particularly in all geographical areas (Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa, Middle East, Latin America).

Capacity Building: Short Courses

The design and delivery of customised training courses for your customers and partners on specific subjects in the field of aeronautical and space engineering, with the possibility of setting up certification programmes.

Location: in the partner country or on our campus in Toulouse
Duration: from a few days to several weeks

Some examples: implementation of a training programme in cooperation with an industrial company, leading to a Certificate of Specialised Studies from ISAE-SUPAERO (Saudi Arabia, Peru); customised training for international customers.

ISAE-SUPAERO and Airbus Defence and Space organized an international training course on space systems

Video example: ISAE-SUPAERO and Airbus Defence and Space have performed an international programme on space systems for engineers from the Peruvian space agency CONIDA (Comisión Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo Aeroespacial).

International Development of Higher Education Programmes

ISAE-SUPAERO is involved with the creation of higher education programmes in aeronautical or space engineering in collaboration between ISAE-SUPAERO, the industrial partner, and a local educational partner in order to support the development of a country’s aerospace ecosystem:

specialisation programmes at Bachelor’s or Master’s level
Master’s programme

This activity may include auditing, pedagogical expertise, curriculum design, teacher training, specification of research equipment, and delivery of training activities.

Some of our achievements:

China :

Creation of Advanced Masters (1 year) programmes duplicated from existing programmes atISAE-SUPAERO and ENAC, in collaboration with industrial partners. In 10 years of operation, more than 500 engineers from the Chinese civil aviation sector have been trained in aeronautical maintenance, flight operations, and continuing airworthiness.
Creation of the Sino-European Institute of Aeronautical Engineering (SIAE) in Tianjin. This is an engineering school in partnership with CAUC (Civil Aviation University of China), ENAC and ISAE-ENSMA.

Malaysia: creation of a Master’s programme in aeronautical engineering in cooperation with an industrial partner and a Malaysian university, including teacher training and the implementation of a programme enabling Malaysian students to obtain a double degree with ISAE-SUPAERO

Australia: expertise provided by ISAE-SUPAERO in the design (curriculum, course content) of a Master’s programme in satellite design engineering, in cooperation with an industrial partner

Brazil: implementation of a project to support the introduction of space engineering courses at a local university in cooperation with an industrial partner

Train Your Staff in France

The constant evolution of the technology and methods to be deployed in an increasingly complex environment requires lifelong learning for managers in the industrial sector, particularly in aerospace.

To anticipate industry needs, ISAE-SUPAERO and its subsidiary EUROSAE have developed a diversified continuing education policy, offering French and international students long degree courses such as Advanced Masters, certification programmes lasting a few weeks, and short programmes lasting a few days.

Courses accredited by the Conférence des Grandes Écoles that aim to provide expertise in the fields of aeronautics, space, complex systems, or dual management skills. These innovative and internationally recognised courses are aimed at young engineers and managers looking for career development. They last one year.

Some of these Advanced Master® programmes are eligible for CPF or Transitions Pro-type funding (CPF de Transition, resignation scheme, etc.) to help you achieve your career goals.

Based on some of our Advanced Master® programmes, these courses consist of 6 months of tuition (in English, with some exceptions) and count for 45 ECTS credits, in the following areas:

The ten-week programme, divided into three sessions, is designed for professionals in the aerospace sector (aircraft manufacturers, systems integrators, equipment suppliers, airlines, agencies, research centres, etc.) who want to acquire the skills needed to manage multipartner and multicultural projects in an international aerospace environment.

ISAE-SUPAERO and GIFAS offer training to accelerate the decarbonization of air transport

Entitled “Decarbonising aviation for industry players”, this one-day course has been designed to give professionals in the aviation sector the keys to understanding the climate issues, technological levers and regulatory frameworks that are shaping the future of aviation.

The programme includes

A look at the climate impact of aviation activities and solutions for reducing emissions.
An exploration of transition technologies, such as sustainable aviation fuels, hydrogen, electrofuels and innovative architectures.
An introduction to the AeroMAPS simulation tool, developed by ISAE-SUPAERO, to evaluate different prospective scenarios.
An analysis of regulatory and economic developments to identify opportunities and constraints for companies in the sector.
Decarbonation 2025 training course – GIFAS
This training course is aimed at all professionals involved in the transformation of the aeronautical industry, whether they play a strategic role or wish to gain a better understanding of future developments.

Two initial sessions organised in 2024 enabled the programme to be fine-tuned to meet the expectations of companies and industry experts.

The initiative is continuing with new dates: 3 April 2025 in Toulouse and 10 April 2025 in Paris.

AeroMAPS: an ISAE-SUPAERO reference tool for exploring the possible futures of aviation

The AeroMAPS tool, developed by two ISAE-SUPAERO researchers, Scott Delbecq and Thomas Planès, can be used to assess the environmental impacts of air transport and the effectiveness or limitations of levers to decarbonize the sector! Initially designed for research and training purposes, the tool is now a multidisciplinary, open-source platform, accessible to experts as well as institutional, industrial and associative decision-makers. Its development has been integrated into the work of the Institute for Sustainable Aviation (ISA), an interdisciplinary research institute headed by Laurent Joly, whose aim is to address the issue of #aviation's ecological transition in all its complexity. By playing on the sector's transition levers, AeroMAPS users can define the scenarios whose impacts they wish to analyze. For example, the introduction of new aircraft types, the use of new fuels or the rate of growth in air traffic. AeroMAPS is the first air transport scenario exploration platform built on an open-source scientific methodology. It was initially designed and developed to enable researchers to explore air transport transition scenarios in detail. It was then rapidly integrated into training programs: first in the ISAE-SUPAERO engineering curriculum, then in continuing education programs. To facilitate use of the tool, a partnership was formed with Sopra Steria. This major tech player built the platform's new web interface to enhance the user experience and make it accessible to decision-makers. Research work recently took on a socio-economic dimension with a PhD prepared by Antoine Salgas, in partnership with TBS Education. Antoine Salgas has also created a traffic and emissions inventory in collaboration with the Dutch Delft University of Technology. These two aspects of his thesis gave rise to an AeroMAPS “satellite” tool, called AeroSCOPE, which enables analyses to be partitioned and regionalized. Today, the comprehensive, multi-disciplinary aspect of AeroMAPS is a decision-making aid for the entire #aeronautics ecosystem. Through its scientific expertise, ISAE-SUPAERO contributes to the debate and to the future of aviation.

From classroom to cockpit: flying activities at ISAE-SUPAERO

Take a video tour of the school's Lasbordes Air Operations Center (COAL). With a fleet of 9 light aircraft, the COAL offers 3 types of activities: - Pilot training to obtain the Private Pilot's License (PPL), which enables students to fly single-engine aircraft. - Practical work directly linked to the school's teaching programs, from flight mechanics to an introduction to flight test techniques for continuing education. - Research into human factors and pilot cognitive mechanisms in real time during flight. At ISAE-SUPAERO, engineering and Master's students are lucky enough to be able to take their pilot's license just a few kilometers from the campus. Several instructors accompany them and train them to fly. All are members of the Aerospace Vehicle Design and Operation Research Department, headed by Valérie Budinger.

Decarbonised aviation: first successful flight test for the hydrogen-powered Mermoz drone

In January, the first ‘Drone Mermoz’ demonstrator carrying hydrogen gas, developed by ISAE-SUPAERO in partnership with H3 DYNAMICS, successfully completed its first radio-controlled flight on the runway of the Muret model aircraft club in the Toulouse region (31).

Advanced Master® HADA: EMBARK FOR A COURSE IN THE AIR!

ISAE-SUPAERO's Advanced Master® “Helicopter, Aircraft, and Drone Architecture” (HADA), in partnership with Airbus Helicopters, provides high-level technical and engineering skills for careers in the aircraft, drone and helicopter sectors. Right from the start of the program, students board a helicopter for an in-flight course! “In this way, they are immediately involved in the study of the helicopter's various controls and reactions,” explains Jean-Marc Moschetta, head of the program. This experience will serve them well throughout their training: "During theory classes, they'll be able to relate their own experience to an understanding of helicopter flight mechanics. Feedback: a Latecoere engineer in the ISAE-SUPAERO laboratories

To strengthen the links between industry and research, more than 10 industrial R&D engineers have been made available to ISAE-SUPAERO as part of the France Relance plan! Cyril Geneste, research engineer at Latecoere, is one of them. Together with Miguel Charlotte, Associate Professor at the Institute, he looks back on this fruitful two-year collaboration. Their work, carried out in the ISAE-SUPAERO laboratories, focused on the behavior of aircraft door seals, which ensure cabin airtightness. Thanks to the Institute's cutting-edge equipment and academic expertise, Cyril Geneste was able in particular to carry out numerical modeling of seals in order to test their behavior. Students in their 3rdᵉ year of engineering studies were also involved in this work.
