The constant evolution of technology and the methods to be deployed in an increasingly complex environment call for lifelong learning for managers in the industrial sector, particularly aerospace. To anticipate these needs, ISAE-SUPAERO and our subsidiary EUROSAE have developed a diversified continuing education policy, offering French and foreign students long Advanced Master's programmes, certification courses lasting a few weeks and short qualifying courses lasting a few days.

Our Advanced Master® programmes

Our programmes are accredited by the Conférence des Grandes Écoles and aim to provide expertise in the fields of aeronautics, space, complex systems, or dual management skills. Our innovative and internationally recognised courses are aimed at young engineers and managers looking for career development. They last one year. Some of our Advanced Master® courses are eligible for CPF or Transitions Pro funding (CPF de Transition, resignation scheme, etc.) to help you achieve your career goals.

Preparation for PMI & INCOSE Certifications

Our preparation courses for PMI® ( Project Management Institute) and INCOSE ASEP & CSEP certification will enable you to become a recognised specialist in project management and systems engineering.

Preparation for PMI® (Project Management Institute) certification leads to accreditation as a Project Management Professional (PMP®) or Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®).

Preparing for INCOSE (International Council on Systems Engineering) certification means that your skills, knowledge, and experience in systems engineering are formally and rigorously recognised. The two levels of certification depend on your experience: ASEP (Associate Systems Engineering Professional) & CSEP (Certified Systems Engineering Professional).

This course is designed for experienced project managers, directors, and project leaders who want to prepare for these certifications.

AASTRA - Courses for Administrators

ISAE-SUPAERO, in partnership with the IFA and ENAC, is launching a brand new course for directors in the aeronautics, space, and air transport sectors.

AASTRA is a leading training course designed specifically for directors (boards of directors or supervisory boards) operating in the aeronautics and air transport ecosystem. It provides the knowledge, skills, and best practices needed to carry out an effective and committed term in leadership. What is your background?

After taking my baccalauréat S in the Lyon region, I enrolled at ESTACA (an aeronautical engineering school) as a post-baccalaureate student. After graduating, I continued my studies by enrolling in the Advanced Master® TAS AERO FTE at ISAE-SUPAERO.

Why did you join the Advanced Master® TAS AERO FTE?

I’ve always been attracted to the world of testing, so I decided to apply for the Advanced Master® TAS AERO, Flight Test Engineering (FTE) option, with the aim of discovering the world of testing from a theoretical point of view, but also from a practical point of view, thanks to the number of flights I made during the course.

What do you see as the strengths of this programme?

Being able to take to the skies to apply the theory we’ve learned on the ground is one of the very positive aspects of the Master. In my opinion, there’s nothing better than putting into practice the theoretical concepts covered during the year.

What’s more, thanks to the master’s degree, you get to see the whole chain (V cycle) from design to certification, via flight preparation, then production and finally data processing and writing the test report. One of the great assets of this Master’s programme is the diversity of the contributions made by people from industry in a wide range of fields.

Could you tell us more about the FTE major? How has it helped you in your career and in your current position?

Discovering how to prepare, carry out and analyse test flights, as well as learning certain test techniques, gave me my first taste of the world of flight testing. The global vision of the world of testing that the Master’s provides also helps me to gain credibility at job interviews.

What are your next career objectives?

For the last year and a half, I’ve been working as a LFTE (Lead Flight Test Engineer) at DGA Flight Tests in Cazaux, in the Embedded Weapons Systems department. I’m looking forward to continuing my varied activities, particularly on armed helicopters, because of my recent appointment to this post!

About the Advanced Master® TAS AERO FTE

The Advanced Master® in Aeronautical Engineering, accredited by the Conférence des Grandes Écoles under no. 50, is a course in aeronautics that provides a broad knowledge of aerospace engineering and the aeronautical industry.

This aeronautics course develops an integrated approach to aircraft product design. It prepares participants to work on multidisciplinary aeronautical projects with a practical approach.

The FTE - Fligt Test Engineering option provides an introduction to flight test methods, but does not lead directly to an aircrew qualification. However, after a few years working for a manufacturer or government test centre, some of our graduates may be selected for training as experimental test pilots or flight test engineers.

Co-founder of the startup Viraj H2, created during his 3ᵉ year of engineering studies, Joseph Risson wants to contribute his expertise to the decarbonization of air travel by exploring a new hydrogen propulsion architecture! Joseph and his partner, Paul de Goÿs, were awarded the €1 million Lopez-Loreta Foundation prize in 2023 to continue their research into this innovative propulsion method, and now benefit from the support and expertise of InnovSpace, the school's official incubator, where the startup is currently housed. Like all our alumni, he plays an essential role in creating lasting links between the institution and its former students. 3 questions to Marie Delaroche, 3ᵉ year student and MDRS 293 crew commander

Since February 18, seven ISAE-SUPAERO engineering students have been living a simulated Martian life and carrying out experiments in collaboration with CNES and several research laboratories at The Mars Society's Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) in UTAH (USA)! For the second time, the mission is led by a woman: Marie Delaroche, a passionate #spaceexplorer, who was already part of crew 275 departing in 2023. We asked her 3 questions to find out more about the challenges of this mission and her feelings as #flightcommander! Alongside her, three young women and three young men in their 2ᵉ year of #engineering studies have taken on the roles of astronomer, scientist, botanist, journalist, health worker and onboard engineer. They are all members of the Mars Club ISAE-SUPAERO, a student association for the popularization of science focused on the Red Planet and the missions dedicated to its exploration and study. They are currently experimenting with AI4U, the artificial intelligence that assists astronauts in their daily tasks (environmental measurements, voice recognition, emergency exercises). They are also conducting a science popularization experiment in collaboration with secondary school pupils. Inspired by the film The Martian, in which an astronaut grows potatoes on the Red Planet, the aim of this experiment is to compare plant growth in Martian soil with growth in terrestrial soil! Sophie Adenot is flying out on February 11th for a eight-month mission with Crew-12 on the ISS!

Today, the entire ISAE-SUPAERO community is coming together: students, staff, faculty, and alumni are showing their support for Sophie Adenot, European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut and ISAE-SUPAERO alumna, as she embarks on a eight-month mission to the ISS. Sophie is the second French woman, 30 years after Claudie Haigneré, to fly on a long-duration mission. On the ISS, she will conduct around 200 scientific experiments, including 10 French experiments, covering fields such as medicine and materials physics. Have a good flight, Sophie. We will be following you throughout this amazing journey!

Arnaud Prost, ESA reserve astronaut and ISAE-SUPAERO alumnus: “I was incredibly lucky to be here”

Fighter pilot and reserve astronaut with the European Space Agency (ESA), Arnaud Prost returned to his former school on Thursday March 28 to meet 200 secondary school students as part of the ISAE SUPAERO OSE program. It was an opportunity for him to recall the “great memories” of his student experience at ISAE-SUPAERO, his long-standing commitment to the student social outreach program and the “Aquanauts” scheme he set up with OSE l'ISAE-SUPAERO. And in passing, he offers a few words of advice to young people who might dream of following in his footsteps: “Don't let yourself be convinced that one of these paths isn't for you!” A 2017 graduate of ISAE-SUPAERO, Arnaud Prost is among those selected for the ESA Astronaut Class of 2022, alongside Sophie Adenot and Anthea Comellini, both also alumni of the school. They join other illustrious ESA astronauts who have already studied at the school: Thomas Pesquet, Luca Parmitano and Samantha Cristoforetti. Since 1970, ISAE-SUPAERO has contributed to the progress of the space age through its training, research and innovation activities. As the only organization in France to offer degree courses (engineering, master's, specialized master's, doctorate) covering all 22 space-related themes identified by CNES, the Institute offers a royal road to space careers. Feedback: a Latecoere engineer in the ISAE-SUPAERO laboratories

To strengthen the links between industry and research, more than 10 industrial R&D engineers have been made available to ISAE-SUPAERO as part of the France Relance plan! Cyril Geneste, research engineer at Latecoere, is one of them. Together with Miguel Charlotte, Associate Professor at the Institute, he looks back on this fruitful two-year collaboration. Their work, carried out in the ISAE-SUPAERO laboratories, focused on the behavior of aircraft door seals, which ensure cabin airtightness. Thanks to the Institute's cutting-edge equipment and academic expertise, Cyril Geneste was able in particular to carry out numerical modeling of seals in order to test their behavior. Students in their 3rdᵉ year of engineering studies were also involved in this work.

From classroom to cockpit: flying activities at ISAE-SUPAERO

Take a video tour of the school's Lasbordes Air Operations Center (COAL). With a fleet of 9 light aircraft, the COAL offers 3 types of activities: - Pilot training to obtain the Private Pilot's License (PPL), which enables students to fly single-engine aircraft. - Practical work directly linked to the school's teaching programs, from flight mechanics to an introduction to flight test techniques for continuing education. - Research into human factors and pilot cognitive mechanisms in real time during flight. At ISAE-SUPAERO, engineering and Master's students are lucky enough to be able to take their pilot's license just a few kilometers from the campus. Several instructors accompany them and train them to fly. All are members of the Aerospace Vehicle Design and Operation Research Department, headed by Valérie Budinger.

On Friday, 8 December, the Swiss Jean-Jacques and Felicia Lopez-Loreta Foundation for Academic Excellence awarded a prize to Viraj H2, a project developed at ISAE-SUPAERO. Joseph Risson, a third-year engineering student, is studying a hybridisation between a hydrogen turboprop engine and a fuel cell in order to accelerate the decarbonisation of air transport. The €1 million grant will enable Joseph and his partner Paul de Goÿs to validate the technology behind their innovation.

Since 1968, ISAE-SUPAERO has been based in the heart of the European capital of aeronautics and space, the favourite city of French students between the Pyrenees, the Atlantic, and the Mediterranean. Our 19-hectare campus is a lively and welcoming place, with a student residence of around 1,000 rooms, a wide range of sports facilities, and around a hundred student, cultural, and technical clubs, encouraging an intense community life on site.

Our Institute also boasts cutting-edge, world-class research facilities, supporting academic and scientific excellence. Although they are diverse in nature, they share a common trait: their great complexity, which blends scientific and social dimensions. It is the role of engineers to bridge the gap between science and society, drawing on the former to take concrete action within the latter. To address the complexity of these challenges, engineers can utilise their voices and propose solutions.

Engineers Must Take Part in Public Debate and Exercise Their Role as Citizen-Engineers

Our world is facing major technological, health, and environmental challenges. Although they are diverse in nature, they all share one thing in common: their great complexity, which combines scientific and social dimensions.

It is the role of engineers to bridge the gap between science and society, using science to take concrete action in society. Their role is crucial in addressing the complexity of these challenges by proposing solutions that are ambitious, scientifically sound, and socially acceptable. Engineers have a voice to be heard, yet they are all too rarely heard in public debate.

Higher education and research are major levers in the transition to a sustainable society. In recent years, our students’ awareness of climate issues has become very high, as shown by their growing participation in the dedicated training modules that we have set up over the last ten years. Their massive and unprecedented involvement encourages us to think even more deeply about our contribution to this transition.

A leading engineering school such as ours remains fundamentally attached to the notion of progress developed in the Age of Enlightenment. We believe that advances in science should enable humanity to gradually take control of its own destiny, provided it makes good use of them. We are aware that we have a special role to play in this respect, not only by contributing through our research to the advancement of knowledge, but above all by educating young engineers to make the best use of it. We are firmly committed to this.

The Ecological Transition is the Major Challenge Facing the Aerospace Industry

The history of aeronautics and space is that of a pioneering industry that has fulfilled one of mankind’s oldest dreams. Crossing the Atlantic in an aeroplane or sending a human being to the Moon: over the last century, aerospace engineers have repeatedly shown that they are capable of doing what many thought was impossible. They can help to do the same for the challenge of ecological transition.

They have already made a major contribution to the diagnosis of the situation; it was thanks to balloons and aeroplanes that the science of the atmosphere was first developed. More recently, it was thanks to the observation satellites put into orbit over the last few decades that it has been possible, for the first time in human history, to measure the state of the atmosphere and the oceans over the entire surface of the globe. Without this, it would have been impossible to understand the phenomena and validate the scientific models of global warming. Now they have to work hard to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero, starting in their own field, which is not the easiest.

In barely 100 years, aeronautical engineers have invented, made safe, and democratised air transportation. We are no longer surprised by this, but isn’t it extraordinary that today it is faster, more comfortable, safer, and cheaper to take the plane than the car or the train, when you want to cover distances of more than 1,000 kilometres? The energy efficiency of air transportation has made equally impressive progress. But that’s not enough. Having invented, made safe, and democratised air transportation, we now need to decarbonise it. This is a new issue, a new challenge, just as ambitious as the previous ones—we need to invent new aircraft, using all the technological resources and creativity of our engineers.

The technological avenues have been identified: energy sources, materials, structures, aerodynamics, engines, etc. There is a considerable amount of work to be done to bring all these technologies to maturity and bring them up to the level of reliability and safety required for air transportation. This is the role of the new generation of engineers who will have to invent new, low-carbon aircraft that are as reliable and competitive as ever, based on the latest scientific advances—a fabulous challenge for decades to come.

ISAE-SUPAERO is Making a Long-Term Commitment Today

The education model of France’s leading engineering schools combines high scientific standards, a broad multidisciplinary approach, and a commitment to business and society. Our students are destined to become key players in the ecological transition.
The pioneering spirit and potential for innovation that are in the DNA of aeronautical engineers, and in particular those at ISAE-SUPAERO, encourage us to go even further.

Over the past year, we have mobilised a number of working groups, students, teaching and research staff, industrial partners, and governing bodies to examine in greater depth and reformulate our strategic commitment to sustainable development. Together, we have faced this formidable challenge, and we are convinced that it also represents a tremendous opportunity for our students. We are convinced that it is possible to transform the aerospace sector over the coming decades to make it a major component of a sustainable society. Space will play an increasingly important role in monitoring the state of our planet, and air transportation can be decarbonised so that it can continue to meet the long-distance transportation needs of future generations without impacting the climate.

to remain true to our history and our motto ‘Excellence with Passion’, by educating engineers who will be at the forefront of the transformation of the aerospace sector.

We have therefore made a commitment to mobilise our teaching skills and scientific expertise to help build the aeronautical and space components of a sustainable society, and in particular to invent the low-carbon air transportation of the future. We are implementing this commitment through a renewed sustainable development strategy: HORIZONS.

The aim of this approach is threefold:

to make the Institute a committed player in the sustainability of aeronautical mobility and the space sector by educating the engineers and managers who will take up this challenge, and by directing our research and innovation activities in this direction;
to give our future graduates the keys to contributing to the public debate on energy transition and a sustainable society, based on a scientific approach and their ability to master complex systems; and
to continue to reduce the carbon footprint of our activities and our campus.

Since 1909, ISAE-SUPAERO has been training systems engineers with a global approach who, through their excellence, contribute to the emergence of solutions and are capable of solving major problems and making a positive commitment to the future of society. We educate critical thinkers who are aware of changes in the world and of the fact that science and technology are at the heart of major societal issues.

The aeronautics industry is constantly changing. It needs to rethink, transform, and reinvent itself. It will need new visions as well as different and emerging skills. At ISAE-SUPAERO, we have a role to play in this adventure by preparing our graduates to transform and reinvent the aerospace sector of the future and to become involved in major pioneering projects as they have done since the beginning of the 20^th century, and by contributing to research in this area.

In the face of global warming, everyone is called upon to make a contribution; now is not the time for denial. Higher education and research are major levers in the transition to a sustainable society. In recent years, our students have become increasingly aware of environmental issues, as evidenced by their participation and interest in dedicated courses and projects.

Deepening Our Thinking on Transitions

The massive and unprecedented mobilisation of our students has encouraged us to go further in our reflections on our Institute’s contribution to the transition towards a sustainable society. Over the course of 2021, several working groups including students, faculty, industrial partners, and governing bodies have been mobilised to deepen and reformulate our strategic commitment to sustainable development. The Chair supports research undertaken by ISAE-SUPAERO in the field of neuroergonomics, human factors and human-machine interfaces, with the aim of improving aviation safety.

Identify and analyze the mechanisms involved in abnormal crew decisions and their apparent deafness to various alarms when unexpected situations occur
Develop new generations of neurotechnologies (brain-machine interface) to optimize the symbiosis between pilot and aircraft
Deploy an interdisciplinary approach combining the use of advanced neuroimaging, signal processing, artificial intelligence and experiments using ISAE-SUPAERO’s experimental resources.

What is Sponsorship?

Sponsorship is a form of support governed by a tax system that allows companies to deduct 60% of their donation from their taxable income.

Sponsorship chairs are unique in that they develop a long-term mutual commitment, generally from 3 to 5 years or longer.

The sponsorship is based on sponsorship agreements or corporate chairs with the ISAE-SUPAERO Foundation.

Three Areas of Focus

International Partnerships of Excellence

The establishment of international partnerships of excellence based on ISAE-SUPAERO’s existing programmes (Masters, Advanced Master, Post-Graduate Diplomas, Certificates, short modules, and online courses) to welcome international students and professionals, with the possibility of setting up double degree programmes with universities in partner countries.

Location: on our Toulouse campus and some courses delievred online
Duration: varies according to the programme

Some achievements:

Education of engineers, young professors and officers from a large number of countries via ISAE-SUPAERO’s existing courses, in collaboration with an industrial or institutional partner, particularly in all geographical areas (Europe, Asia, Oceania, Africa, Middle East, Latin America).

Capacity Building: Short Courses

The design and delivery of customised training courses for your customers and partners on specific subjects in the field of aeronautical and space engineering, with the possibility of setting up certification programmes.

Location: in the partner country or on our campus in Toulouse
Duration: from a few days to several weeks

Some examples: implementation of a training programme in cooperation with an industrial company, leading to a Certificate of Specialised Studies from ISAE-SUPAERO (Saudi Arabia, Peru); customised training for international customers.

ISAE-SUPAERO and Airbus Defence and Space organized an international training course on space systems

Video example: ISAE-SUPAERO and Airbus Defence and Space have performed an international programme on space systems for engineers from the Peruvian space agency CONIDA (Comisión Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo Aeroespacial).

International Development of Higher Education Programmes

ISAE-SUPAERO is involved with the creation of higher education programmes in aeronautical or space engineering in collaboration between ISAE-SUPAERO, the industrial partner, and a local educational partner in order to support the development of a country’s aerospace ecosystem:

specialisation programmes at Bachelor’s or Master’s level
Master’s programme

This activity may include auditing, pedagogical expertise, curriculum design, teacher training, specification of research equipment, and delivery of training activities.

Some of our achievements:

China :

Creation of Advanced Masters (1 year) programmes duplicated from existing programmes atISAE-SUPAERO and ENAC, in collaboration with industrial partners. In 10 years of operation, more than 500 engineers from the Chinese civil aviation sector have been trained in aeronautical maintenance, flight operations, and continuing airworthiness.
Creation of the Sino-European Institute of Aeronautical Engineering (SIAE) in Tianjin. This is an engineering school in partnership with CAUC (Civil Aviation University of China), ENAC and ISAE-ENSMA.

Malaysia: creation of a Master’s programme in aeronautical engineering in cooperation with an industrial partner and a Malaysian university, including teacher training and the implementation of a programme enabling Malaysian students to obtain a double degree with ISAE-SUPAERO

Australia: expertise provided by ISAE-SUPAERO in the design (curriculum, course content) of a Master’s programme in satellite design engineering, in cooperation with an industrial partner

Brazil: implementation of a project to support the introduction of space engineering courses at a local university in cooperation with an industrial partner
