A day to become a player in decarbonisation
This is the aim of ISAE-SUPAERO’s new “Decarbonisation of the aviation industry for players in the sector” course, run in partnership with the Groupement des industries françaises aéronautiques et spatiales (GIFAS). It enables employees in the French aeronautics sector to immerse themselves in understanding the current context, forward-looking scenarios and the various levers for action. The first two sessions will be held on Thursday 3 April 2025 in Toulouse and Thursday 10 April 2025 in Paris.
Based on academic research, this course presents a global vision of the ecosystem and its transition, and is aimed at all players in the sector. “It will enable them to deepen their knowledge of the issues and their role in the sector’s transition, as well as providing them with tools to facilitate their mobilisation and decision-making”, explains Thomas Planès, lecturer and researcher in sustainable aviation and aircraft design at ISAE-SUPAERO.
Handling the AeroMAPS tool
Thomas Planès will be co-leading the training course with Scott Delbecq, a lecturer and researcher in aeronautical systems design at the Institute. They are both the creators of the AeroMAPS tool, which can be used to assess the environmental impact of air transport and the effectiveness of levers to decarbonise the sector. Participants will be asked to use the tool “to assess the contribution of their action levers (new engine, electrification of ground operations, low-carbon fuel, etc.) to decarbonising the sector”, explains Thomas Planès. They will then be able to compare the scenarios generated with the sector’s objectives and those of the Paris Agreement.
ISAE-SUPAERO, which has produced the Aviation and Climate Reference Framework, and more than a third of whose research subjects concern the decarbonisation of the aerospace sector, is thus continuing to mobilise its academic and scientific skills in support of the transition to a sustainable society.
