AERONAUTICAL ENGINEERING Advanced Master
major FLIGHT TEST ENGINEERING
trains high level experts to acquire multidisciplinary skills in the aeronautical field and more specifically in flight test methodologies.
This Advanced Master is a very specific training since it gives the opportunity to get a comprehensive understanding of the contribution of each discipline and function to the performance of the aircraft (civil aircraft, helicopter or military aircraft).
The TAS AERO Advanced Master core program is dedicated to: aeronautics systems management, materials for aerospace structure, propulsion, aerodynamics, aircraft structure or flight mechanics, human factors…
Moreover, the FTE major focuses on the tests led during aircraft and equipment development and certification. Knowledge and skills are put into practice during flight tests in order to acquire specific methods and technics.
Around 12 flights are scheduled on 4 different aircraft such as Robin DR400, Mudry CAP 10, SOCCATA TB20, bimoteur Vulcanair P68 Observer (one is acrobatic).
Students, who are managed by professional pilots and flight test engineers, prepare the contents of the flight, ensure the briefing, drive the flight onboard, analyse the results and present their conclusions for each flight.
They have the opportunity to visit companies belonging to the aeronautical industry. 2 days within the DGA (Direction Générale de l’Armement) fligh test center and Dassault Flight Test Center in Istres are planned.
Once they graduate, our students become flight test experts who have acquired multidisciplinary skills offering very large professional opportunities : from research, more particularly in compliance demonstration, to the aircraft performance analysis… They can pretend to be hired as engineer, project manager, consultant within international companies. The main recruiters are SAFRAN Helicopter Engines India, AKKA technologies, Altran, Airbus, Airbus Flight and Integration Tests, DGA Essais en vol…

“I had a first professional experience as a test engineer on nuclear power plants (8 years) when I decided to retrain either in aeronautics, or in space engineering.
Sky and space had always been fields of great personal interest, and the MS offered at ISAE appeared to be my best options to achieve an efficient professional retraining.
I had a particular interest in the “flight testing” domain (crossroad of my interest for aviation and my background in testing), so the choice of the TAS AERO FTE master was obvious.
The TAS AERO FTE master provides some solid technical basis in multiple disciplines (flight dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion…).
The “flight test experimentation module” offers a unique opportunity to work in a “baby flight test team” : to prepare experimentations addressing various technical problematics, conduct tests in flight, analyze the data and write test reports.
Furthermore, I chose to perform the “Human Factor” certificate which gave me an really interesting view of aviation under another perspective.
After the academic semester of the master, I was hired by ALTRAN as subcontractor for Airbus in flight physics. I could carry out my professional thesis during this first employment.
I was since then hired as engineer in flight testing by DGA Essais en Vol on the Istres Flight Test Center. My objective is to keep learning in this context and gain expertise.
My longer term ambition is to become a flight test engineer.”
