Portrait of Jérémie Kahan: MS Embedded Systems Alumni
Available online :
Jérémie, Future Aircraft Software Engineer - RTOS critical embedded systems at Safran Electronics & Defense, tells us about his background and his choice for the Embedded Systems Advanced Master.
His background
- Entrepreneur (at 17 ) - Plume project – project of a drone delivery – official exhibitor at CES2020 of Las Vegas
- 2 years of "Classes préparatoires aux Grandes écoles" PCSI-PSI
- CPE Lyon – engineering school diploma, specialization in Robotics of services
- D2E entrepreneur’s diploma, EM Lyon and Jean-Moulin Lyon 3.
What made you decide to join an Advanced Master?
After an internship at THALES, I chose to enhance my capabilities and my skills through the MS EMS Embedded Systems.
First was the excellence criterion: I knew I would find top classes in a very specific domain taught by a smart association of ISAE-SUPAERO and INP-ENSEEIHT strong points.
I knew what I was looking for technically, and the teaching I received went beyond my expectations.
I went for 1 hard-working year and was not disappointed with the 6 very intense months of theoretical and practical courses.
The presence of both the industry and laboratories within the teaching team was something I knew would truly transform my student vision to a full engineering mindset, which it did.
What did the Advanced brought you ? What are its main assets?
I wanted to master the whole chain from software applied to autonomous vehicles to hardware applied to embedded systems.
I learned the criticality-demanding aerospace environment at ISAE-SUPAERO, which complemented adequately the more futuristic-however-somewhat yet untested environment I knew in the field of autonomous vehicles.
I am particularly grateful to my Head of Advanced Master, Madam Janette CARDOSO, as well as to all the school staff, for the investment and flexibility they offered. It includes, among, many other things, the support I received when my team won the French golden medal of mobile robotics at WorldSkills, with me as their technical coach, Jury and communication & sponsorship manager.
Eventually, I got the honor to be awarded a prize from ISAE-SUPAERO-ENSICA Alumni Association during my studies.
What was your professional Thesis ?
The professional thesis I conducted at SAFRAN ELECTRONICS & DEFENSE was strongly related to my drone delivery project, with a deep insight into RTOS.
This was for me an opportunity to turn embedded systems knowledge into skills at SAFRAN, the same way I did at THALES with autonomous vehicles.
I was much interested to witness the rigor of the processes to ensure the highest level of safety
to systems that had to go through flight-ready certification.
I took the opportunity of meeting with SAFRAN ambassadors at ISAE-SUPAERO during a dedicated afterwork with SAFRAN-ISAE-SUPAERO alumni, and it marked the origin of my career.
What is your job today and what are your professional objectives for the coming years?
I turned my internship into a permanent contract at SAFRAN. So I work on the same subject as during my internship, but now with the responsibilities to the level of a full time engineer.
I also am very interested in developing a broader understanding of my environment with the trust my managers place in me. This includes responsibilities beyond technical tasks, with opportunities usually at the reach of experienced managers.
Should I succeed at those new responsibilities, I would be much interested in pursuing this path by completing one day my technical skills with business ones, acquired potentially via SAFRAN internal training or external ones.
