From September 14th to 28th, 2019, Eddy, Camille (ISAE-ENSICA class of 2016) and Laurent, all three private airplane pilots, will take part in the Latécoère-Aéropostale Rally, a 9,000-km journey with 50 hours of flights, 20 stopovers, 5 countries crossed and 60 participating teams.

Starting in Toulouse, the Azur 6 Crew wants to fly to Dakar in a flying club’s plane following the paths of the historic, longest line in the world. They will have to deal with a certain number of variables such as the weather, geography, navigation in unknown lands, managing stopovers, aircraft performances and all kinds of unforeseeable events.

But this trip has more than just a sports aspect, it will also include cultural and solidarity-based actions to be organized with the local populations. Most importantly, the crew wants to raise awareness of the values, applications and impact of aviation on the modern world.

Raid Latécoère-Aéropostale : étapes
The steps of the journey

For this, their trip will be punctuated by:

- meetings and discussions with schools in the countries visited,
- the production of a fresco in the form of a pilot’s scarf tracing the adventures of Jean Mermoz with the Aéropostale (drawn by classes at the partner schools in the African section of the trip),
- joint actions with aviation associations,
- making a short film with the children illustrating the solidarity-based aspect of aviation.

To make this long, wonderful journey, the three adventurers will receive support from the 2019 Rally’s sponsor, Bertrand Piccard himself. He comes from a family of explorers and was the first to fly around the world in a hot air balloon non-stop in 1999 and is one of the initiators of the solar aircraft project, "Solar Impulse".

The Azur 6 crew has a presence on Facebook and Instagram and has also launched a crowdfunding page on line to finance their entire trip. You can find more information in the crew brochure.
