TRAINING FOR THE FUTURE
We teach our students to be able to meet the challenges of the energy transition. By supporting them in their systemic approach, their ability to master complex systems and their involvement in the public debate, we are giving them the keys to inventing the world of the future.
IN SEPTEMBER 2019, MORE THAN 80% OF THE FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS AT ISAE-SUPAERO WANTED TRAINING IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. STARTING AT THE BEGINNING OF THE NEXT ACADEMIC YEAR, 100% OF OUR STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE TRAINING ON THE STAKES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.
CLIMATE AS A PRIORITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION
In 2019, Olivier Lesbre, President, signed the manifesto put out by The Shift Project, a think tank working for an economy freed of carbon constraints. Recent work on teaching for climate and energy challenges in higher education have brought forth a strong desire in the higher education community and among students for an organized educational response to our climate challenges. Over 80 heads of institutions and 1,000 professors and researchers at the top of a list of some 7,500 signatories have called upon the French government to "initiate a transition strategy for higher education that places the climate as the primary emergency."
INVESTMENTS AND INVOLVEMENT IN TRAINING AND RESEARCH IN RESPONSE TO THE CHALLENGES OF THE ENERGY TRANSITION
ISAE-SUPAERO and the ISAE-SUPAERO Foundation are working together and shouldering their share of the responsibility for meeting these major challenges facing our society. Their actions involve increasing awareness and training for future aeronautical engineers and the development of research programs for handling energy and climate challenges more effectively.
LOW-TECH ACTIVITIES AT ISAE-SUPAERO
Seeking to develop sustainable development and ecology topics in the engineering program, ISAE-SUPAERO is launching a Low-Tech activity day this year for first-year students. The aim? To build a hydroelectric turbine using salvaged materials. The students had to show a great deal of creativity and ingenuity. The proof is in the pictures!
STUDENTS TRAINED TO FACE ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES IN THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY
ISAE-SUPAERO ENGINEERING PROGRAMS
Students are offered a selection of modules: Eco-design and Renewable Energy, The Energy Transition: What Role for Engineers?, Wind Propulsion, The Circular Economy, Energy and Climate.
- In the 1st year: 3 days in the mountains to debate on environmental issues.
- In the 2nd year: “The Environmental Situation: Observations and Causes” module.
- In the 3rd year: the possibility to choose the Energy, Transport and Environment field of application and to opt for rounding out the training course with an Environmental Engineering Certificate.
- Possibility of adapting the course program to get involved in a sustainable development project.
- Debate workshops on the challenges of sustainable development and the role of the engineer: energetic, climate, socio-economic, and ethical challenges.
- Conferences organized throughout the year.
ENGINEERING “THROUGH APPRENTICESHIP – INDUSTRIALIZATION AND METHODS FOR AERONAUTICS AND SPACE”
Special teaching modules:
- "Sustainable Development and CSR" in the 1st year.
- "The Factory of the Future: Stakes and Challenges" in the 2nd year.
As part of the options for the 3rd year, “Avionics and Embedded Systems” and “Energy Systems and Materials” classes focus on the questions of energy efficiency and an eco-responsible approach in the aviation sector.
THE ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING CERTIFICATE AT ISAE-SUPAERO, A SOLUTION FOR TRAINING FUTURE ENGINEERS IN THE CHALLENGES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
In a context in which the environment is at the center of everyone’s concerns, ISAE-SUPAERO is implementing solutions for training and developing the role of tomorrow’s engineers in the ecological & energy transition. As part of the actions by the CEDAR Chair (Airbus), the Environmental Engineering Certificate is for third-year students in the Engineering Programs at ISAE-SUPAERO and the schools in the ISAE Group. It is taught by contributors with a variety of profiles from industry, research centers, schools or self-employed people. En savoir plus
WORLD ENGINEERING DAY 2020: A YOUNG ALUMNUS PUTS HIS ENGINEERING SKILLS TO WORK TO FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE
For "World Engineering Day 2020" focusing on the subject of sustainable development, we propose a portrait of Maxime Efoui Hess. A 2017 ISAE-SUPAERO graduate, he has made the fight against climate change his personal and professional leitmotif. Convinced that engineers have a major role to play in protecting the environment, this young graduate has taken an original route by joining The Shift Project, a general interest lobbying group working for an economy freed of carbon constraints. For him, engineers have the necessary technical skills and scientific vision to be able to change the current economic and industrial models, taking the environmental and social challenges into account.
