The ISAE-SUPAERO debating team has risen straight to the top of the debate in France again this year! On April 12, 2022, for the FDA final, they will debate at the National Assembly in Paris on the motion, "This House Believes That absence is the highest form of presence."

How did we get to the finals?
The first debate of the ISAE-SUPAERO took place on February 12, 2022, at home against The Sorbonne, and was a great show! The motion we proposed was "The government that governs least governs best". A lively debate ensued, punctuated by lots of humor, circus, and great speeches from both sides. The motion was finally won 3-2 to the great satisfaction of the audience!
For the second debate on February 28, 2022, ISAE-SUPAERO moved to oppose Centrale Lyon on the motion: "Social media has improved human communication". We had prepared great speeches and got the first ever 5-0 win since the beginning of the tournament. ISAE-SUPAERO has thus qualified for the quarter finals!
In Paris, on March 5, 2O22, the ISAE-SUPAERO team debated against Telecom Paris. The motion was: "This house believes that lying is a necessary evil". The Institute team proposed and used memorable lines such as "No relationship can survive on pure honesty" and "The truth is boring". The result was an overwhelming 4-1 victory for ISAE-SUPAERO, which qualified us for the semi-finals.
At the Irish Cultural Center on April Fool’s Day, we faced Panthéon-Assas, a law school in Paris, on the motion "This house prefers chaos to comfort". Our debate team successfully opposed the motion with a score of 4-1. Another success for the Institute!
FDA President Declan McCavana said it was a great rhetorical feast and that he looks forward to the April 12 finale at the State Assembly.
The final debate
Today, the final is the last step to take! This one, as every year during which the coronavirus did not strike, will take place at the National Assembly. And ISAE-SUPAERO arrives in the Final two years in a row!
Facing the ENSAE Paris, we will defend the subject "This house believes that absence is the highest form of presence. This quote from James Joyce, the great Irish author, was chosen to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the first publication of his landmark novel, Ulysses. So, after a week of arduous preparation, our debate team will have the chance to speak in front of over three hundred people. From among the audience, nine luminaries from various backgrounds will serve as jurors, and will decide the winner of the debate.
