OUR ALUMNI HAVE THE FLOOR! MEETING WITH YANN AMEHO AND BAPTISTE TRIPARD WHO ARE NOW WORKING AT ALTEIA
Available online :
Yann Ameho and Baptiste Tripard are respectively Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at Altéia.
CAN YOU FIRST BRIEFLY PRESENT ALTEIA AND ITS BUSINESS SECTORS TO US?
By 2023, 80% of large companies will collect visual data as part of their digital transformation. They are already deploying artificial intelligence (AI) models to process these massive data flows and generate useful information for their businesses, or to measure their impact on the environment.
Alteia is addressing this fast-growing market by providing companies with a software platform to rapidly deploy visual AI applications. Rather than developing an expensive and risky in-house solution, companies rely on Alteia for efficient and scalable deployment, as well as savings on application development and maintenance.
Alteia’s technology has already been deployed worldwide for a variety of high added-value applications, such as fire or power failure risk analysis, mine site productivity optimization, crop analysis and predictive maintenance for oil facilities.
With Alteia, data processing experts and operational teams can collaborate around a common and simple tool to implement and measure the effectiveness of their artificial intelligence-supported business processes in order to take up tomorrow’s global challenges.
WHAT ARE YOUR FUNCTIONS AT ALTEIA, WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU WORKING ON?
Baptiste: I am Alteia’s CMO. The responsibilities are multiple: define and communicate Alteia’s vision, manage internal and external communication around what we do, and work on mechanisms (content and vectors) to convince our prospects to work with us. It is an excellent mix between the creative and technical sides. Often we think that engineers do not make great marketers, but I think on the contrary that it is necessary to have a complete understanding of these topics in order to communicate them well!
Yann : I am in charge of the team that develops Alteia’s product. On the one hand, I organize the work of the platform, data science, back-end, front-end and mobile teams by ensuring that all team members understand the ambitions and choices made as regards the design and technical implementation of our product. On the other hand, I ensure that the technical architecture of the platform enables us to meet the needs of our customers.
WHAT ARE YOUR ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUNDS?
Baptiste : JI studied at ISAE-SUPAERO from 2003 to 2005. I then went for a double degree in Berlin, where I started to open myself up to less technical subjects and meet more creative profiles (artists, architects). I supplemented my training with the HEC Entrepreneurs Master’s degree. Since then, I worked with start-ups (in aviation and drones) and abroad where I worked for Intel in San Francisco in charge of investment strategies concerning all topics related to autonomy and artificial intelligence (drones, cars,...). Going to the United States made me understand the difference between our two cultures, where we French are more attached to the method, the Americans are more attached to the message!
Yann : I joined ISAE-SUPAERO in 2006. I chose to specialize in automatic and embedded systems because I was passionate about the development of mini-drones. After a break period internship at Thales Avionics in the autopilot department and a research internship in the Leicester University laboratory, I continued my studies with a doctorate at ONERA on adaptive control as applied to drones.
This enabled me to start at Delair at the end of 2013 as a guidance, navigation and control engineer. I started by working on a vision-based navigation project, and then I worked on using data acquired by drones. This led me to work on developing the first version of our data processing platform, which over time has become the Alteia platform. This initial phase of the project enabled me to work at many of the jobs needed to implement our platform. As the activity around the platform grew, I took part in structuring and developing the team by taking on the roles of Tech lead and then CTO. It’s very exciting to be able to devise, build and perfect a system over the long term while training the teams that develop it.
ALTEIA IS RECRUITING YOUNG ENGINEERS RIGHT NOW, IN WHAT AREAS?
Baptiste : In marketing and sales, we are always looking for original profiles to move forward together. Feel free to contact me on LinkedIn and let’s talk about it together! For me, marketing is an incredible discipline because you have to be tuned into the world, understand its dynamics and draw inspiration from a huge range of fields!
Yann :We call on profiles specialized in one or more of the following areas: Software (frontend/backend), cloud computing, machine learning, geographic information systems. Alteia is hiring many engineers who are committed to solving ambitious problems, who are not afraid to try and propose solutions. We are seeking to make the visual data collected in the field useable at different levels in our customers’ organizations.
We are carrying out this project by building a product, a coherent set of tools that enable us to organize and contextualize the data collected in the field. The challenge is to create a collaborative web application that can be used to handle large amounts of 2D and 3D data, often in a geospatial context. Artificial intelligence is used to help our customers make sense of their data, but the infrastructure in the background is just as important.
