Open innovation (OI) is not a new phenomena; however the adoption of open OI in aerospace has lagged behind other sectors, leaving many to question, why so? There are often attempts to rationalise the status quo; IP, regulation and tiered supply chains. However, the path to a more sustainable future is a complex and uncertain one; status quo is no longer an option. How can OI be employed to accelerate new sustainable and value add solutions?
In recent decades, most disruptive innovations have been caused by a significant shift in how companies generate new ideas and bring them on to the market. In the OI model, value is generated by alternative approaches: Bringing ideas and technology from outside markets and adapting them to innovate. Being able to apply this model in aerospace is a challenge, but also a huge opportunity to renew our industry.
ECATA (European Consortium for Advanced Training in Aerospace) is made up of 8 Leading European Aerospace companies and 7 partner universities collaborating together.
- Over 25 years of cooperation and networking experience
- Builds a multicultural network
- 500 highly qualified lecturers
- 450 ECALAS alumni members
ECATA is a development programme aimed at leaders of the aerospace industry. In 2021, in 4 months and 3 locations (Munich, Turin and Delft) delegates take part in lectures, visits, workshops, seminars and a multi-national team project (MTP).
