Decarbonising air transport: ISAE-SUPAERO opens a training workshop for professionals with GIFAS
Available online :
The aim of this one-day training course is to help employees in the aeronautical sector to play an active and informed role in the decarbonisation of the sector.
The first two sessions will be held in Toulouse and Paris on 26 November and 3 December.
One day to become a player in decarbonisation. This is the aim of the new ‘Decarbonisation of the aviation industry for players in the sector’ course run by ISAE-SUPAERO in partnership with the French aerospace industry association GIFAS (Groupement des industries françaises aéronautiques et spatiales). It enables employees in the French aeronautics sector to immerse themselves in understanding the current context, forward-looking scenarios and the various levers for action. The first two sessions will be held on 26 November on the ISAE-SUPAERO campus in Toulouse and on 3 December at GIFAS in Paris.

Based on academic research, this course - in French - offers a global vision of the ecosystem and its transition, and is aimed at all players in the sector. ‘It will enable them to deepen their knowledge of the issues and their role in the sector’s transition, as well as providing them with tools to facilitate their mobilisation and decision-making’, explains Thomas Planès, lecturer and researcher in sustainable aviation and aircraft design at ISAE-SUPAERO.
Handling the AeroMAPS tool
Thomas Planès will be co-hosting the course with Scott Delbecq, a lecturer and researcher in aeronautical systems design at the Institute. They are both the creators of the AeroMAPS tool, which can be used to assess the environmental impact of air transport and the effectiveness of the levers used to decarbonise the sector. Participants will be asked to use the tool ‘to assess the contribution of their action levers (new engine, electrification of ground operations, low-carbon fuel, etc.) to decarbonising the sector’, explains Thomas Planès. ’They can then compare the scenarios generated with the sector’s objectives and those of the Paris Agreement.’
ISAE-SUPAERO, which produced the Aviation and Climate Reference Study and whose more than a third of its research subjects concern the decarbonisation of the aerospace sector, is thus continuing to mobilise its academic and scientific skills in the service of the transition to a sustainable society.
