Anthony Kannan, graduate of ISAE-SUPAERO’s Embedded Systems Advanced Master’s program (EMS) and currently software developer for embedded systems, tells us about his career path, and the main assets of the Advanced Master program.

HIS CAREER PATH

  • 2023: Graduate of ISAE-SUPAERO – Embedded Systems (EMS) Advanced Master / Internship at ONERA, The French Aerospace Lab.
  • 2016 – 2022: Industrial automation engineer – Design, development and testing of software for industrial machines.
  • 2016: Master’s degree, Renawable Energy – Saint Joseph University of Beirut
  • 2009 – 2014: Electrical Engineering – Saint Joseph University of Beirut

WHY DID YOU CHOSE THIS ADVANCED MASTER AT ISAE-SUPAERO?

I decided to pursue an EMS Advanced Master’s program to gain knowledge in developing embedded systems, which I frequently used in my professional career (e.g., PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), VFDs(Variable Frequency Drives), industrial robots, electronic sensors etc.). I selected ISAE-SUPAERO due to its strong reputation within the French industry and academic excellence, expecting it to enhance my career prospects and provide a robust foundation in the embedded systems domain.

WHAT DID THE ADVANCED MASTER BROUGHT YOU? WHAT ARE THE MAIN ASSETS OF THE PROGRAM?

First, this Advanced Master covers a wide range of topics related to embedded systems, including hardware, software, embedded networks, power electronics, and system engineering. Secondly, as you spend most of your time with your colleagues, you develop close relationships with them.

DURING THIS PROGRAM, YOU WILL NOT ONLY GAIN PRACTICAL EXPERTISE IN EMBEDDED SYSTEMS, BUT YOU WILL ALSO LEARN HOW TO COLLABORATE WITH OTHERS IN A TEAM ENVIRONMENT, JUST AS IN A REAL WORKPLACE.

Moreover, the teachers are experts in this field and have solid ties with industry. In addition, there are numerous workshops featuring industry professionals who can help you find the best opportunity for you. Lastly, I did my internship at ONERA, an aerospace and defense research lab, thanks to the involvement of many of my teachers who work there and the lab’s reputation for providing innovative solutions. This opportunity represented a challenge that motivated me to prove myself in a highly skilled environment.

HOW DID YOU ORGANIZE YOUR TRAINING PROJECT?

About the schedule, although the MS-EMS is a full-time program with an intensive schedule, I structured my days by setting myself daily goals for revising, executing projects, and applying for internships, prioritizing tasks according to deadlines.

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT JOB AND WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER GOALS FOR THE COMING YEARS?

I’m currently working as a software developer for embedded systems in a company specializing in industrial tightening tools for the aerospace and automotive sectors. My future goal is to become a software architect for embedded systems.
