The official launch of the ESA Lab took place at the Institute’s booth, as did themeeting betweenOlivier Lesbre, Director General of ISAE-SUPAERO, and theDirector General of ESA, Josef Aschbacher, to discuss future collaborations for sustainable and responsible space exploration. Nasa’s Perseverance robot, which has been surveying the surface ofMars since February 2021, has recorded the very first sounds of the planetMars thanks to a microphone developed by ISAE-SUPAERO. Their analysis resulted in a publication inNature inApril 2022, co-authored by researchers fromthe Institute. A fewmonths later, inDecember, an international team including researchers from ISAE-SUPAEROannounced that they had recorded for the first time the sound and image of aMartian dust devil measuring over 188meters. These exceptional data could improve our understanding of dust storms and climate variability onMars.
