The Minister of Defense, Jean-Yves Le Drian, the President of the Board of Directors of ISAE-SUPAERO, Lionel de la Sayette and the President of ISAE SUPAERO, Olivier Lesbre, signed the performance and objectives contract linking the Institute to the Government for the period 2017-2021, on December 14th.

ISAE-SUPAERO was created out of the merging of ENSICA and SUPAERO. The first mission of the Institute is to provide the French and international aerospace industry with the best engineers in the field. For the period, 2017-21, ISAE-SUPAERO is committed to reinforcing its position as a world leader in aerospace engineering higher education driven by three components: training, research and innovation.

To fulfill this goal, the school has defined the following objectives :

Expanding the Institute’s international reputation and engagement

To continue to attract the best students and world class faculty and researchers, in a highly competitive environment, the Institute delivers world renowned higher education programs. To grow its excellence, ISAE SUPAERO plans to significantly expand its investment (4M€) in research and teaching, and create a space entirely devoted to innovation. At the same time, the Institute shall step up investments to optimize the quality of life on campus (i.e. creation of a learning center, expanded support to student associations).

Creating a leading international research federation

The Institute is already involved in the Institut Clément Ader (joint research Unit), a center of excellence in solid mechanics.

Over the next five years, research collaboration between ISAE-SUPAERO,ONERA and ENAC shall be stepped up, driving the creation of a new multidisciplinary research foundation specialized in engineering for air transportation and aerospace vehicles, unique in the world.

Continually advancing higher education and continuing education programs

To answer evolving industrial needs, ISAE-SUPAERO shall continue to adapt its range of higher education programs including the ingenieur isae-supaero program, master’s, advanced masters and doctoral programs. Today, this offering is the most comprehensive in the world for aerospace engineering. The number of students trained shall increase proportionally to the estimated needs of industry, in other words 4-5% a year.

The Institute’s continuing education programs shall also be significantly expanded. Courses shall keep pace with the technological evolutions in the aerospace field. For example, big data, which is already covered in courses, shall continue to be developed.

ISAE-SUPAERO students have long been entrepreneurial and have actively created companies. The Institute shall increase its support for young entrepreneurs via specific courses related to innovation development, assistance and access to technical resources on campus.

In collaboration with the Institute, Fondation ISAE-SUPAERO shall continue to financially support international mobility projects of students and young entrepreneurs.

Actively shaping and leading evolutions in higher education and research

Within the framework of l’Université Fédérale de Toulouse, of which it is a founding member, the Institute is committed to playing a leadership role when it comes to the aerospace field, across initiatives such as the GIS microdrones or the Centre Spatial Universitaire de Toulouse.
At the national level, ISAE SUPAERO leads Groupe ISAE, a federation of higher education institutions of excellence in the aeronautics and space field. The federation which includes ISAE-SUPAERO, ISAE-ENSMA, ESTACA, and Ecole de l’Air shall continue to expand academic exchanges and host new members.

« With this performance and objectives contract, the Ministry of Defence and ISAE SUPAERO have defined for the coming five years, the framework in which the Institute shall engage its development and consolidate its international position…”, says Lionel de la Sayette, President of the Board of ’ISAE-SUPAERO « (…) The Institute is an invaluable asset for the aerospace industry, which in turn has significantly expanded its support of the school».
