Life of the Institute during the COVID-19 crisis / Update of March 23, 2020

Available online :

Following the government’s announcements and the restrictions put in place in France by the President of the Republic to deal with the COVID-19 health crisis, ISAE-SUPAERO has closed its campus since Monday 16 March 2020. Almost all of the institute, except those whose presence is imperative on site, is now teleworking. The priority of the institute is to protect the health of its students and staff members and to ensure the continuity of its missions in the best conditions.

In order to slow the spread of the virus, protect the most fragile and avoid saturation of our hospitals, everyone must now limit their movements and the number of people with whom they are in contact each day to a strict minimum. The Institute’s priority is to enable students to continue their education in the best possible conditions, and all our efforts are focused on switching to distance learning and project management. Alternative solutions to distance learning courses are currently being deployed.

Confinement should not be synonymous with isolation: we propose to all our staff members to regularly consult the information available on our collaborative tools, our communication channels, to use our remote exchange platforms and also to take advantage of new practices on public or private social networks. Each student can be accompanied on a case-by-case basis because no decision can take into account the specificities of your backgrounds and situations. Do not hesitate to contact your referents within your training departments if the information below does not answer your questions, you will find their contact details below.

In this unprecedented period for our country, the Institute adopts a different mode of operation but remains as close as possible to everyone. Let’s be in solidarity by remaining efficient, all together.

2. For all engineering students, we ask you to pay attention to the following information, which may change as the situation progresses:

  • All those who are on French territory must stay there. For these students, internships and academic stays abroad are only possible through teleworking or distance learning, as already implemented by some partner universities.
  • All those who are already abroad can stay there, in compliance with the measures taken in the country where they are staying. For those who are on an academic stay or an internship, please keep us informed of the evolution of the situation and ask for our support if needed mobilites-ingenieurs at isae-supaero.fr for academic stays and dfi.stages at isae-supaero.fr for internships (césure or SFEPFE) or personal projects.
  • For those who should start their SFE abroad in the next few days, you should discuss with your host company the possibility of setting up teleworking or postponing the start of the internship to May or June depending on the evolution of the situation and/or to go back to your course manager to try to activate our network and find a solution to fall back on the national territory in case the situation does not last.

We ask you not to worry about the issue of international obligations, we will take the necessary measures and decisions to minimize the impact of this situation on your schooling.}

The Aeronautical & Environmental certificates and the DESIA are cancelled. Indeed, these programs call upon many external contractors that it would be complicated to mobilize in this context and taking into account the pedagogical model of these programs. We felt that in the current context, efforts should be put on the continuity of the engineering curriculum.

Ariane platform: to all our students, we advise you to register on the Ariane platform, in order to receive by email or sms information/instructions from the French government : https://pastel.diplomatie.gouv.fr/fildariane/dyn/public/login.html

CCMP : The information concerning the Common Mine Bridges Competition is not known at this time. They do not depend on ISAE-SUPAERO and will be communicated directly by the CCMP.

Recruitment through GEI-UNIV :

The written exams cannot be held on Wednesday, April 8th. A postponement of the date is envisaged, the objective of GEI-UNIV is to conduct the written tests and then the interviews in the schools. We invite you to consult the website http://www.geiuniv.com/ to follow the evolution of the arrangements made.

About internships:

EDIT of March 23rd: **Given the particular situation of confinement, the starting date of some internships must be postponed. Internships can be carried out until the end of December 2020, the date of the end of schooling. Nevertheless, some students may faced particular constraints, having an impact on the duration of the internship. Therefore, the minimum duration of the 2020 end-of-studies internships will be reduced by 1 month.**

Those of you who are in internship, or whose internship starts soon, in France or abroad, are wondering what to do in the current situation. You will find below the general provisions taken by the Institute on this subject. Concerning internships, and in particular end-of-study internships, end-of-master’s projects (Master thesis), professional theses of the Specialized Masters, carried out in France or abroad, ISAE-SUPAERO is led to adapt their conditions of realization and validation:

  • In view of the current situation, face-to-face internships are suspended for an indefinite period. The resumption of in-person work is subject to government decisions.
  • It is recommended to carry out teleworking internships from your home, organised and supervised by the host institution. We invite you to contact your host institution in order to study the implementation of these arrangements, and to keep ISAE-SUPAERO informed of the results of these discussions.
  • Postponement of the starting date of the course, when telework cannot be set up by the host institution, is possible. The dates of support will be deferred accordingly. In this case, contact ISAE-SUPAERO to define the arrangements precisely.
  • The validation of internships of shorter duration than initially planned will be possible in these exceptional circumstances.

In the case of an internship carried out partly or totally by teleworking, this will have to be specified later, if necessary, by an amendment to your internship agreement, signed by ISAE-SUPAERO and the host organisation. Nevertheless, we recommend that you trace the modalities of carrying out your telework internship by courier.

Your working conditions will be in accordance with those of the organisation’s staff who are teleworking, namely :

  • Although at home, you will be under the authority of the host organization.
  • You will have to comply with the provisions of the internship agreement and in particular respect the planned working hours, the mode of operation required by the employer, as well as the deadlines specific to the activity carried out.

If your host organization, given the current situation, decides to cancel the internship rather than telework or postpone it, ISAE-SUPAERO will accompany you to find another internship location, or another tutored project.

If you are currently on a training course, comply strictly with the provisions put in place by your host organization, and inform your training department of these arrangements as soon as you receive this message (see e-mail adresses CC to this message).

ISAE-SUPAERO will come back to each one of you with directives adapted to your situation.

  • The written tests of 27 March are cancelled. New selection arrangements will be put in place and communicated to candidates.
  • The opening of the training course at the beginning of next school year is not called into question.

4. For all Masters & Advanced Masters students, we ask you to pay attention to the following information, which may change as the situation progresses:

Specific cases for the validation of the master thesis (end-of-studies project of the MAE) or the professional thesis (end-of-studies project of the Advanced Masters):

  • the minimum duration of the internships for validation of credits is reduced from 4 months to 3 months (the maximum duration is still 6 months according to French law)
  • from the administrative point of view, the academic year 2019/2020 ends in December 2020 ; this means that we can sign « convention de stage » for internship lasting until December.

We don’t know yet what the companies will choose for their policy for internships, either for those which have already started or for those which should start in the next weeks. ISAE-SUPAERO will write to its industrial partners to give them our position (same as in the mail below) and to put the light on the difficulties a postponement of their internships could make to the students. We will do the same with all our contacts in the Human Ressources department of the companies which have offered internships to masters students.

On your side please stay in contact with Ms Virginie Regolo and send to the e-mail address : internship-masters at isae-supaero.fr all information about the conditions of your internship (teleworking, postponement, risk of cancellation,..). Don’t hesitate to use this message and the message below during your exchanges with your host company or laboratory.

All the DFM team, professors and staff, is committed to support you in this exceptional situation, either for providing you distance-learning courses and projects, or for obtaining the best possible conditions for your end-of-studies projects. We also contribute to the global effort of ISAE-SUPAERO to help the students to go through this very difficult period. Thus all your usual contact points at the DFM are teleworking and you can contact them by e-mail. Dont’ hesitate to do it if you feel the need.
